    Parent Educator (Part-Time)

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Certification in one of the following: Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Human Development and Family Studies, Family and Consumer Sciences OR a four-year degree with two years of successful experience working with children and families.
    • Demonstrate ability to partner with families and empower them by building on their strengths.
    • Possess the knowledge, skills, abilities and physical attributes to perform the essential functions of the position.
    • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate or acceptable.

    REPORTS TO: Parents as Teachers Supervisor

    JOB GOAL: A parent educator collaborates with families with children from prenatal to kindergarten entry using skills in partnering, facilitating, and reflecting with parents. Parent educators offer parent education and family support to enrich the quality of parenting, enhance a parent's comprehension of child development, and collaborate with parents to aid their child learn, grow, and develop to fulfill their maximum potential.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Plans and conducts personalized visits with families in their homes employing the Parents as Teachers Foundational Curriculum. Up to 25% of home visits may occur between the hours of 4:00 and 8:00 PM.
    • Maintains records and all necessary forms for each family promptly.
    • Participates in and supports group connections with families as mandated.
    • Attends staff meetings.
    • Administers developmental, health, vision, and hearing screenings annually for children ages 3 months to pre-kindergarten.
    • Conducts monthly individual reflective supervision sessions with the supervisor.
    • Completes obligatory professional development hours annually to uphold Parents as Teachers certification.
    • Assists in continuous district-wide early childhood screenings.
    • Establishes and preserves effective communication and proper relationships with families, colleagues, and other professionals.
    • Complies with good safety practices.
    • Complies with all district policies and procedures.
    • Assigned duties as needed.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

    • Organized, independent, and self-motivated.
    • Proficient with technology encompassing email, internet, and web-based record-keeping systems.
    • Personal, reliable transport for home visits throughout the school district.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine, ten, eleven, or twelve-month year. Remuneration and work year to be determined by the Board.

    EVALUATION: Assessment of this position will be conducted by the immediate supervisor.
