Job Summary

The Regional Head of HR North America will be part of Munich Re's Global HR Executive Leadership Team and will co-develop and lead the implementation of global HR strategies and processes of Munich Re Reinsurance & Specialty across the region.

The Regional Head of HR is responsible for ensuring that the regional perspective is adequately represented in the design of all functional HR solutions; implementing and delivering global HR processes in the region in a consistent manner; addressing specific regional / local HR needs where necessary and ensuring compliance with local labor law and regulatory requirements. The role reports to the Global Head of Human Resources.

The Regional Head of HR leads regional HR teams, with matrix reporting lines, focusing on Talent, Rewards, and additional local HR activities such as labor law. In addition, the role coordinates all other HR colleagues base in the region and provides input on region-specific aspects related to their jobs.

Furthermore, the role collaborates closely with other members of the HR Executive Leadership team, jointly developing the global HR strategy and delivering solutions in response to specific business needs.

Role Profile

  • Lead the regional NA HR teams in the global setup and ensure strategic dialogue and exchange across functions and teams of regional relevance, also further ensuring the collaboration and creation of synergies within the NA HR teams after the merger of the Canada and US region last year
  • Participate and/or ensure active regional participation in the design of global strategy, processes and standards, representing the needs and perspectives of the region
  • Derive regional priorities from global people strategy
  • Drive the implementation and execution of global HR processes (e.g., compensation, learning delivery, recruitment) across all locations and entities within the region
  • Actively advance global harmonization of standards and ensure consolidation of HR practices and a consistent employee experience across locations and entities
  • Collaborate with functional teams and the HR Transformation & Governance team to develop region-specific solutions within the global framework, where necessary (legal/regulatory requirements). Ensure all HR processes and activities are compliant with relevant labor law and external regulations; handle and proactively address HR legal issues within the region
  • Collaborate closely with the regional Strategic HR Business Partner and Employee Advisory teams with a specific focus on the exchange on NA regional topics
  • Act as a contact for senior leadership in overarching specific regional topics (e.g., Hybrid working location strategies, business continuity management)
  • Support change management and internal communications of major HR-related regional transformations
  • Lead cross-functional teams, foster consensus, and drive effective collaboration within a global matrix organization
  • Actively contribute to the success of Global HR also through sponsoring and leading overarching projects and initiatives
  • Actively support change management and transition in the new Global HR setup
  • Develop talents within Global HR and contribute to the groupwide diversity, equity and inclusion objectives

Your Profile

  • 10+ years of HR leadership experience, including regional or global roles, ideally including in the respective region
  • Extensive knowledge of HR practices, compliance, and employee relations
  • Ability to develop a strong understanding of a company's context, business strategy, and the relevant HR implications ideally gained in the respective region
  • Strong analytical abilities to assess regional needs and measure the effectiveness of HR strategies
  • Expertise in implementing standardized processes across different regional and local realities
  • Ability to lead HR teams in a regional setup in line with the global governance framework
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work across global and regional teams
  • Experience in driving organizational change and leading the integration of diverse teams
  • Ability to navigate and address cultural and organizational differences effectively
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to engage with diverse stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to lead diverse, cross-functional global teams, build consensus, empower teams to achieve common goals, and work effectively within a matrix organization
  • Skilled in guiding teams through change and developing talent through coaching and feedback
  • High level of commitment and a willingness to travel as required

Rewards & Recognition

The Company is open to considering candidates in several locations, including New York City (NYC), Princeton (NJ) and Toronto (ON). The salary range posted below reflects market variations across various locations. The offer will be adjusted per geography.

The base salary range anticipated for this position is $360,000-$540,000, plus opportunity for company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay. In addition, the company makes available a variety of benefits to employees, dependent upon which country the position is hired in.

The salary estimate is adjusted to reflect the varying market conditions across different locations, with the higher end being more aligned with the NYC job market. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role.
