General DescriptionThe clinical Instructor's responsibilities include the hands-on teaching, supervision, and evaluation of the clinical lab competencies as assigned by the respiratory care program director at Labouré College of Healthcare, Located in Milton, MA. Clinical Labs "Bootcamp" will run once a semester for 5 days, 8 am-4:30 pm Wednesday through Sunday, and will be performed on Campus.
Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities
• Evaluate the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective skills of students.
• Supervise students' skill practice.
• Ensure students' accurate and safe skill performance; correct and remediate as appropriate.
• Maintain a safe practice environment.
• Complete assigned competency rating forms and review them with students.
• Utilize evidence-based principles of current respiratory practice for clinical experience.
• Adhere to professional standards and legal guidelines of practice.
• Consult with the Program Director and the Director of Clinical Education regarding observed student behavior, attitude, and skills that are unacceptable such as:
• Be a role model demonstrating responsible and professional respiratory therapist behavior.
• Attends scheduled department staff meetings.
• Participate in ongoing training as assigned by the Program Director and the Director of Clinical Education to ensure inter-rater reliability.
• Document student progress and competency using the Trajecsys Clinical Management Tracking software; maintain the privacy of all passwords and student information.
• Training will be provided and required for clinical simulation software.
Minimum Qualifications
• Associate of Science degree in Respiratory Care
• A valid Respiratory Therapist credential and current active Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP).
• Five years of clinical respiratory experience
• AHA Certified in BLS for Healthcare Professionals
Preferred Qualifications
• Teaching experience in higher education as a clinical or didactic instructor or hospital clinical preceptor
Competencies and Skills Required
• Competent in personal computer applications and email.
• Training will be required for competence in clinical skills in areas of teaching.
• Excellent written and oral communication and analytical skills.
• Ability to delegate and manage small groups.
• Strong critical thinking skills
• Clinical and/or instructional experience in the specific respiratory field (E.g. Pediatrics)
Physical Demands and Work Environment
• This position's duties are normally performed within the laboratories at Labouré College of Healthcare based on the activity/competency scheduled.
• Some physical effort is required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to stand and/ or walk for an extended period in a clinical patient care setting. Some travel is required.
