    Job Title: Differentiation Specialist
    Department/Group: Teacher, Roy School
    Position Summary/Purpose: Coordinate Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) process. Lead the data collection, analysis, and problem solving procedures relative to the MTSS model. Provide staff development in all aspects of MTSS, including but not limited to data analysis, interventions, and instructional techniques. The role is split between providing interventions and managing differentiation and MTSS - including working with staff to support students.
    Role and Responsibilities / Essential Job Functions:
    • Model effective instruction of students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations
    • Understand and apply current scientifically-based reading research, reading development, and developmentally appropriate instruction for students
    • Coordinate the MTSS process including data collection, analysis, and Tier II and Tier III interventions
    • Provide training to teachers in the process of adapting teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests
    • Use computers, audio-visual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations
    • Meet with other professionals to discuss individual students' needs and progress
    • Facilitate MTSS meetings within and across grade levels
    • Serve as a liaison to ensure communication and understanding between administrators and teachers relative to MTSS interventions
    • Confer with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons promoting learning following approved curricula.
    • Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher-training workshops to maintain and improve professional competence
    • Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required
    • Interpret the results of standardized ability and achievement tests to determine student strengths and areas of need
    • Collaborate with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of elementary school programs including intervention strategies
    • Model instructional lessons for teachers within the classroom
    • Prepare, plan, and provide staff development in the area of MTSS interventions
    • Progress monitor students receiving Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions documenting services received and progress achieved
    • Create schedule for tutor push-in support for Grades K-2
    • Manage Tapestry referrals and caseload and facilitate weekly meetings with Tapestry Advocate
    • Meet daily with tutors to discuss student needs and progress
    • Develop lessons and activities for literacy and numeracy
    • Train tutors on lesson planning and activities including program training (e.g., Estrellita, Jolly Phonics, Numeracy Consultants, and Fundations)
    • Provide additional tutor training and support for best practices with small groups
    • Develop and manage drive to store lessons, resources, and tutor plans
    • Adapt materials for Tier 1 support
    • Perform other duties as assigned and appropriate to the position
    Preferred Skills:

    • Be exact or highly accurate
    • As a multi-language district, we always prefer staff who are bilingual but it is not required for this position
    Qualifications and Education Requirements:
    • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with appropriate endorsement(s) for the specific teaching assignment
    • Data analysis, reports/reporting, facilitating meetings, Reading Specialist Endorsement, Math Endorsement, problem solving skills, effective communication skills and practices, leadership skills, collaboration.
    Working conditions / Environment:
    Physical Demands: mobility within the instructional area and throughout the school facility, visual acuity close/distance/depth perception, hearing to receive information, verbal to exchange information. Physical demands often include walking, sitting, bending, twisting, stooping, reaching forward, lifting up to 25 pounds, pushing and pulling.
    Environmental Conditions: indoor climate controlled school environment. May include being outdoors for extended periods of time throughout the year.
