    We have an opening for Sr Staff Engineer Mission Architect to join our qualified, diverse team in Manhattan Beach, CA.

    The Sr Staff Engineer Mission Architect is responsible for leading multiple IRADs and proposals.


    The successful candidate works with diverse teams across the company and industry to establish pursuit strategies, define system architecture baselines, and develop content for competitive proposals and capture efforts.

    Performs system-of-system trades, modeling, simulation, and analysis to assess space mission architecture alternatives for delivering a customer mission effect, data or capability as it fits within a broader campaign.

    Performs analysis-of-alternatives and synthesizes mission elements to lead to a cohesive space mission solution.

    Space mission architecture trades focus on payloads, ground segment, mission planning, Concepts of Operations (CONOPS), Design Reference Missions (DRM), system security and external interfaces.


    The candidate is expected to have experience working with multiple customers, a broad understanding of multiple engineering disciplines and technologies, and bring expertise to bare in the domain of mission management and/or mission control.

    The candidate is expected to have experience working with multiple DoD and/or Intelligence Community customers and will lead the team in defining system architectures including ground and space execution environments.

    The candidate is expected to produce customer demonstration level capabilities including software as a discriminator in shaping capture efforts and proposals.

    The role ensures systems engineering standards are met, develop proposal technical volume content, and provides basis of estimate (BOE).

    Additionally, the Sr Staff Engineer Mission Architect is expected to perform independent reviews for other capture efforts and established programs throughout the development lifecycle outside of primary areas of responsibility.

    The job will require work to be performed on-site regularly. Depending on the customer and assignment occasional remote work opportunities may be available.

    Basic Qualifications:

    14 Years with BS; 12 Years with Masters; 9 Years with PhD

    Working knowledge of systems engineering principles and processes

    Knowledge of, or experience with, common ground approaches, implementations, components, standards, interfaces, constraints, civil requirements, and security needs

    Knowledge of satellite communications and operations.

    Demonstrated experience quickly learning new concepts and approaches

    Experience writing and presenting technical information to customer and internal management audiences

    Must have a current active TS/SCI security clearance

    Ability to travel 10%


    Preferred Qualifications:
    Familiar with DoD and/or IC Enterprise

    Experience with Agile development

    5+ years Ground C2 and/or Mission Management Systems

    Experience with Analysis of Alternatives and Modelling and Simulation.

    Experience with Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and microservices

    Familiarity and direct experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering languages (SysML/UML) and concepts

    Experience with Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) with Cameo EA

    Excellent technical writing and team building skills


    Salary Range:
    $183,100 - $274,700


    The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

    Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.

    In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
