    The Kavuri lab focuses on studying the functional and clinical impact of poor prognosis tyrosine kinase mutations identified from cancer genome sequencing. We use a variety of preclinical models including cancer cell lines, Organoid cultures, patient-derived xenografts (PDXs), and Genetically engineered mouse models (GEMM). Drs. Kavuri and Matthew Ellis (Director of Breast center) lab made significant contributions on translating genome-sequencing findings into successful phase II clinical trials. (Bose. R and Kavuri. NB, et. al, Nature Communications, Our research is supported by Susan. G. Komen, CPRIT, and multiple Department of Defense grants (DOD). We are seeking highly motivated senior research technician, who is interested in translational tumor research.

    Job Duties

    • Prepares and conducts laboratory research experiments.
    • Collects, compiles and analyzes data.
    • Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
    • Documents results of experiments.
    • Selects, evaluates and applies techniques used in routine research.
    • Seeks external funding via grants applications/submissions.
    • Engages in teaching graduate or medical students.
    • Participates in departmental committee duties.
    • Trains and supervises less experienced research staff such as graduate students and postdocs.
    • Collaborates with scientists out of the lab for multidisciplinary study.
    • Develops new model and technique to support the cancer-related research in the lab.
    • Advises junior scientists and provide guidance on their projects.
    • Serves as the animal ambassador to train all the lab members on aseptic surgical procedures;

    Minimum Qualifications

    • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
    • No experience required.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Prior experiences in tissue culture and basic molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, DNA purification, Western blot, ... etc) are required.
    • Must have strong skills with handling animal models including performing/maintaining therapeutic experiments using PDX models.
    • Must have hands on experience with genotyping of GEM models.
    • Prior experience with cancer research preferred.
    • Doctoral degree in a biomedical science.
    • Must be a team player and work well within a group.
    • The individual should be self-motivated and enjoy being highly organized, detail-oriented, communicative, and collaborative.
    • The individual should enjoy contributing to ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the laboratory. The lab provides an interactive and stimulating scientific environment and opportunities for growth.
