    Summary
    Reporting to the Director of Public Safety, part-time, PRN Public Safety Officers provide supplemental staff to fill in on planned or short notice and provide high quality service through patrols and monitoring of University buildings, facilities and grounds, enforce local, state, federal laws, as well as University policies and parking regulations. Responds to all emergencies and calls for service. Provides outstanding customer service to students, faculty, staff, and visitors on campus. Prepares written and computerized reports with specific, accurate, and comprehensive information. Conducts daily security and safety assessments of the campus that would create a potential risk to the campus community.

    Position works various shifts, weekends, holidays. Minimum staffing of one shift per month required.

    Qualifications
    To succeed in this role, you will need:
    • A high school diploma or GED required; associate's degree in criminal justice or related field preferred
    • Preference for prior armed public safety, police, military, or security experience.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain an armed St Louis Metro Security License, including clear criminal record check and driving record, passing physical, and psychological evaluation.
    • Experience with Adult CPR with First Aid and Automatic External Defibrillation (AED). Certification required within 90 days of hire if not already held.
    • Knowledge of FEMA emergency protocols. Completion of FEMA Courses IS100, IS200 within 30 days. Additional FEMA IS course completion or other emergency management, or public safety certifications are a plus.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written, and the ability to interpret and explain information to a variety of persons and groups.
    • Strong conflict resolutions skills, including the ability to verbally de-escalate conflict filled situations.
    • Ability to value diversity and demonstrate commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally respectful interactions with persons of diverse ethnic, cultural, social-economic, or educational backgrounds.
    • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as the ability to work independently toward department goals.
    • Flexibility in scheduling including a willingness to fill in shifts on short notice.
