    JOB SUMMARY
    Responsible for providing individual patient care based on the nursing process of assessment, planning,
    implementation and evaluation. He/She must abide by the regulations of the Pennsylvania State Registered
    Nurse Practice Act, maintain standards of practice as delineated by professional organizations for each area of
    practice and adhere to St. Luke's Hospital policies and procedures when providing patient care. The
    Cardiology Nurse functions as a practitioner to maintain nursing care on inpatients and to institute nursing
    care on outpatient.
    The intent of this job description is to provide a summary of the major duties and responsibilities of this
    position and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent
    in the position


    JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Identify patient per hospital policy utilizing two (2) identifiers.
    • Assesses and monitors patient during procedures including but not limited to: TEE, Pharmacologic
    echo, stress testing and other diagnostic testing as assigned. Documents adequately on pertinent
    data sheets.

    • Performs veni-puncture as required for testing.
    • Assists physicians with orders and physical assessment of patients and documents assessments.
    • Administers medications and contrast for procedures and documents appropriately.
    • Accepts responsibility of keeping record of controlled substance during procedure and follows
    protocol regarding storage of such substances. Maintains all crash carts.

    • Accepts responsibility for providing safe, appropriate and ongoing quality patient care for patients
    experiencing procedures.

    • Provides follow-up telephone calls post procedures for ongoing quality improvement and customer
    service. Documents and reports any unusual findings to the manager.

    • Functions as a professional role model and resource person, providing guidance to co-workers.
    • Maintains equipment in good working condition and secures repairs at the direction of the
    manager.

    • Demonstrates competency in the assessment, range of treatment and knowledge of growth and
    development appropriate to the age of the patient treated (Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent or
    Geriatric).

    • Maintains responsibility for own professional development through active participation in
    in-services and/or continuing education programs.

    • Maintains patient confidentiality.
    • Demonstrates/models the hospitals core values and customer service behaviors in interactions with
    all customers (internal and external).

    • Assist Department Manager with education and training required of department personnel.
    Maintain education and competency documentation for department personnel.
    Maintains confidentiality of all material handled within the Network/Entity as well as the proper
    release of information.

    • Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and
    environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.

    • Demonstrates/models the Network's Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions
    with all customers (internal and external).

    • Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical
    Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety.

    • Responsible for cleanliness of work-space, equipment, and restocking supplies in work area.
    • Cross training for assisting with EKG's, placement of holter monitors and event monitors and
    assisting with stress testing.

    • Obtains and maintains competency per the ACC/AHA for supervision of stress testing (routine and
    cardiac nuclear stress within one year of hire.

    • Demonstrates competency with department information service required applications: Care
    Manager, Patient Care, EKG Muse, holter system, CVIS, structured reporting, Horizon Patient
    Folder (HPF), hospital scheduling system (PHS), Kronos.

    • Knowledge of MSDS accessibility through hospital online.
    • Possesses knowledge of insurance codes, cardiology procedures, and required paperwork for all
    procedures and department requirements.


    Other Functions:

    • Maintains an awareness of department budget.
    • Maintains adequate supplies for the department.
    • Assists the Manager of Cardiology as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS :
    Considerable standing/walking. Frequent use of hands. Frequent use of upper extremities to
    re-position patients, transport patients, and lifting supplies up to 25 lbs. Transporting patients up to 400
    lbs via wheelchair, bed or stretcher. Assisting with re-positioning patients up to 250 lbs with assistance.
    Occasionally stoops, bends and reaches above shoulder level. Touching as it relates to feeling, hearing
    as it relates to normal conversation, high and low frequencies. Seeing as it relates to general, near, far,
    color, and peripheral vision. Also depth perception and visual monotony.

    QUALIFICATIONS
    (MINIMUM)


    EDUCATION:
    Graduate of professional nursing program. Registered Nurse with current license to practice in the
    State of Pennsylvania. ACLS Certified Required.


    TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE :
    Three years of Critical Care experience or cardiac patient care background necessary. Ability to
    monitor and administer IV medications.
