    Job Summary:

    Oversees competence and general management of the medical staff organization accross multiple sites and markets. Directs the overall management of the medical staff organization and the medical staff services (MSS) department across multiple sites. Serves as liaison between medical staff services and other hospital departments and outside agencies. Oversees performance improvement efforts and compliance activities in the medical staff services arena. Assumes oversight for the departments' budget. Acts as a key advisor to senior management on the development of overall policy and long-term goals of the department. Conducts performance reviews and provides input on direct reports for human resource decisions such as hiring, promotions and disciplinary actions. Participates in the development of employees.

    Job Requirements:

    Education and Work Experience:
    • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Required
    • Master's degree: Preferred
    • Seven years' management-related training and experience in an acute care hospital setting: Preferred
    • Five years' leadership experience: Preferred
    Licenses/Certifications:
    • Certified Professional in Medical Services Management (CPMSM) by the National Association Medical Staff Services (NAMSS) or CPCS: Required
    • Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) or Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM): Required
    Essential Functions:
    • Oversees staffing, budgets, database administration, credentialing, privileging, bylaws, rules & regulations, policies, practitioner competence and general management of the medical staff organization across multiple sites. Administers personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, orientation, vacation schedules, payroll records and time reports.
    • Serves as liaison between administration, medical staff leadership, the general medical staff and hospital departments.
    • Collaborates with administration, quality department and medical staff leadership to effect performance improvement within the organization.
    • Assumes responsibility for continuous compliance with state and federal regulations including Joint Commission (TJC) standards and California Medical Association (CMA) guidelines as they relate to the organized medical staff and the medical staff services department.
    • Oversees medical staff performance improvement/peer review functions, ensuring findings are appropriately reviewed, communicated and documented.
    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
