- Under general supervision and according to policies and procedures, perform routine and limited non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides, for microscopic evaluation by pathologist(s).
- Capable of performing all duties/responsibilities of a Histology Lab Assistant.
- For Grossing Personnel Trainees - Under the direct supervision of a Pathologist, Pathologist Assistant or Grossing Technician:
- Describe gross anatomic features of routine, uncomplicated surgical specimens, ensuring that all lesions, markings and sutures are mentioned.
- Record measurements, weight, volume and any abnormal findings as applicable.
- Dissect surgical specimens and prepare tissues for histologic processing.
- Escalates non-routine, complicated surgical specimens to a Grossing Technician or Pathologist Assistant.
- For Histotechnician Trainees - Under the direct supervision of a Histotechnician or Histotechnologist
- Ensure proper tissue processing.
- Performs limited embedding and microtomy.
- Prepare slides for routine Hematoxylin and Eosin staining.
- Perform coverslipping of stained slides either manually or automated.
- Perform limited special stains.
- Perform specimen preparation on non-gynecological specimens, including cytopreparation, staining, coverslipping, etc. after completing training on non-gynecological specimen types. This includes specimen preparation of Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) specimens
- Ensure all corporate safety, quality control and quality assurance standards are met.
- Ensure compliance with all local, federal, CLIA and CAP regulations.
- Maintain a clean and well-organized work area.
- Other duties, as assigned by supervisor.
- Basic knowledge of operating non-complex instrumentation.
- If training for grossing, meets all requirements as outlined in corporate Minimum Qualifications for Non-Pathologist Performing Gross Tissue Examinations SOP and 1988 CLIA CFR
- If training for Histology, meets all requirements as outlined in corporate Policy for Minimum Qualifications for Histotechnician and Histology Supervisor.

Histotech / Grossing Trainee - Indianapolis, IN - Monday - Friday - 8:00PM-4:30AM
The Histotechnician/Grossing Technician Trainee position is for an individual who meets the educational requirements outlined in the corporate policies outlined above, but does not have the bench experience.
The individual in this position will perform all work under direct supervision until general and/or technical supervisor have approved individual to work independently.

Preferred Work Experience:
1 year of histology and/or grossing experience
Physical and Mental Requirements:
