    Description

    Overview:

    Front of house manager is responsible for operation and management of the reception and seating area of a theatre and the oversight of front of house staff and concessions. Ensures all procedures for safety and security are always followed. Responsible for the recruitment, induction, development and training of new staff and volunteers. Provides excellent customer service to all visitors of the theatre and deals with any issues which may arise. Answer questions, listen to patrons compliments and concerns, and make audience members feel welcomed. Coordinates building and auditorium opening times with stage manager or point of contact. Orienting, briefing, and assigning specific duties to assistant house managers, ushers, and volunteers as to the specific logistics of each event/performance. Explaining ticketing, intermission times, late seating policy, food and drink policy, programs and exit flyers. House managers do a pre-show walk-through of lobby and seating area to verify the house is clean and presentable for the audience. Coordinate with Box Office manager to see if there are any specific seating or ADA accessibility needs. Determine whether there is any specific signage that needs to be placed such as no flash photography, no food and drink, etc. Knowing proper protocols in case of an emergency for the safe exiting of patrons. Ensuring all doorways and egresses are clear for patrons. Follow emergency procedures, handle all emergency situations affecting patrons and the building while on duty. Such situations may include emergency evacuation of the building in the event of fire, bomb threat, power outage or other emergency in which patron and artist safety is at risk. Notify emergency authorities and Seminole Theatre executive management as required.

    This role will pay an hourly wage of $16 to $20.00.

    Responsibilities:
    • The house manager schedules, trains, and supervises the ushers, who take tickets and lead patrons to their seats. This means making sure that ushers have a sense of the seating scheme, so that they can lead patrons to their seats in the quickest possible way. Some ushers may be assigned to hand out programs. Ushers must also be made familiar with the latecomers policy. The house manager makes sure that ushers have whatever supplies are needed to their job, such as a flashlights.
    • If there are programs to be handed out prior to the performance, the house manager makes sure that the right number is available. The house manager does a pre-show walk-through of the lobby and seating area to verify that the house is clean and presentable for the audience. If there are signs or notices relevant to a particular show, such as "no flash photography" or "no use of cell phones" the house manager makes sure those signs are in place.
    • The house manager is responsible for the safety of the audience, in case of an emergency, like a fire or tornado, and should know what steps to take to either evacuate the audience members, or secure them in place. The ushers should also be instructed in emergency procedures, particularly where various escape routes are located.
    • The house manager works closely with the box office manager. If there is a dispute about tickets -- for example, if a patron mistakes the date on her ticket and shows up on the wrong night, the house manager may have to help resolve the situation. If there is a waiting list, the house manager coordinates with the box office manager to determine which audience members will be seated. If the theater offers standing room, the house manager must make sure that the theater is observing capacity limits and fire laws.
    • The house manager confirms show time with the stage manager. If there are latecomers, and a need to delay the start of the show, the house manager alerts the stage manager, who is managing the production as it happens. If some of the stage action takes place in and around where the audience is seated, the house manager makes sure that the aisles are clear of people's feet or their belongings.
    Qualifications:

    1. Must have at least 2 years of experience in event management/theater experience or relevant field.

    2. Available for morning, evening, and night shifts as required during the week and weekends.

    3. Ability to climb stairs.

    4. Ability to lift 40 lbs.

    5. Comfortable standing for extended periods of time.

    6. Displays a sufficient knowledge of Microsoft Office.

    7. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment

    8. Experience working in customer service or service industry.

    9. Excellent communication both written and verbal Bi-lingual a plus

    10. Ability to consistently display a positive, friendly, and energetic attitude and appearance 11. Must be available weekends, holidays, and evenings
