    TIME POSITIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

    Non-rotating 40 hour work week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, but may occasionally require evening hours and or weekend magistration.

    Responsibilities

    Presiding Municipal Court Judge

    Grade: 313


    Salary:
    $87,495 - $114,801 (Annually)


    Oversees administrative duties by preparing budgets, supervising courtroom personnel, maintaining employee staff and work schedules, training new judges and monitoring policies and procedures in conjunction with judges, prosecutors and court administration.

    Presides over trial dockets by hearing trials, rendering verdicts based upon information given and preparing/reviewing court orders. Oversees court orders by reviewing documents/mail and preparing court orders from arraignments, trials and court administration. Presides over the courtroom by advising defendants of plea choices, questioning defendants, entering judgments, preparing orders and reviewing/signing orders.

    Monitors information on arrest warrants by reviewing probable cause affidavits, search warrants, capias pro fine warrants and bench warrants for accuracy.

    Maintains professional and technical knowledge and skills by keeping required license/certification current.


    Qualifications:
    Requires a Juris Doctorate, licensed attorney in good standing with the State of Texas.

    Must have five (5) years' experience practicing law with a minimum of two (2) years practicing law in Nueces County prior to appointment.

    Criminal law experience is required. Judges are required to cover various Courts, cross training in the juvenile and ordinance Court is required. Must be Licensed to Practice Law in the State of Texas.

    Municipal Court Judge (Full-Time)

    Grade: 311


    Salary:
    $79,360 - $104,128 (Annually)


    Presides at jury and non-jury trials, arraignments, bench and jury trials, show cause dockets and motions dockets, Emergency Protective Orders and magistrates defendants at the City Detention Center on misdemeanor and felony cases in a fair and impartial manner; basis decisions on the law as applicable to the facts.

    Reviews probable cause affidavits, warrants, capias and capias pro fines and where probable cause exists, issues warrants and search warrants.

    Ensures that all defendants coming before the court understand their rights, legal options, and consequences for violation of law.


    Qualifications:
    Requires a Juris Doctorate, licensed attorney in good standing with the State of Texas.

    Must have five (5) years' experience practicing law with a minimum of at least two (2) years practicing law in Nueces County prior to appointment.

    Criminal law experience is required. Judges are required to cover various Courts, cross training in the juvenile and ordinance Court is required. Must be licensed to Practice Law in the State of Texas.

    Municipal Court Judge (Part-Time)

    Salary:
    $44.25 (Hourly)

    Basis of Rating

    Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.

    Closing Statement

    Selected applicants must be able to pass a background investigation and a pre-employment drug test.

    Any position that lists a minimum qualification for education level and/or license/certification will require the applicant to provide proof of documentation if selected for hire into the position with the City of Corpus Christi.
