    Bargaining Unit:

    EARate of Pay: $36.43/hour + DOESummaryAssists the RN, surgeons and special procedure physicians in the care and treatment of Perioperative Services Department patients by performing specialized technical skills at both Tahoe Forest Hospital and Incline Village Community Hospital.

    Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesMaintains the integrity of the sterile field and sterile instruments and supplies used at the surgical site.

    Performs surgical hand antisepsis.

    Responsible for preparing surgical unit for operative procedures by assembling sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment; responsible for proper care of the instrumentation and equipment in surgery.

    Checks and opens sterile supplies and maintains the sterile field per aseptic technique.
    Assist team members to position the patient on the operating table, surgical preps, and pre-operative shaves. Acquires X-rays.
    Drapes or assists with draping for surgical procedure as indicated.

    Watches and anticipates surgeon needs, prepares and passes instruments and supplies to the surgeon efficiently and effectively; holds retractors, cuts sutures, and performs other tasks as directed by the surgeon during surgery.

    Assists with the transport of patients and acts as a runner and messenger.
    Assists as necessary to turn over the OR suite; cleans, washes and sterilizes the operating room.
    Cleans up and transports instruments to Decontamination in a safe and timely manner.
    Works as a team member in the cleaning, restocking and maintenance of the surgical rooms; initials appropriate checklists.
    Acts as a service line leader for assigned specialty.
    Assures equipment availability, function and repair; uses equipment and supplies safely and appropriately.
    Understands and implements event related sterility.
    Assists with other duties as requested by the Charge Nurse, Manager and/or Director.
    Attends and participates in meetings and in-services.
    Accepts and follows through on special projects, assignments and new services contributing to unit goals.
    Practices financial responsibility in the operations of the department.
    Participates in problem-solving, and accepts problem resolution as made by group, Manager and/or Director.
    Collaborates constructively with other hospital departments and entities.
    Participates in and stays current with unit-based competency programs.
    Sets measurable goals for change and growth based on evaluation and feedback.
    Pursues knowledge, help or experience to obtain goals.
    Completes educational requirements to maintain certification, if applicable.
    Seeks educational opportunities beyond mandatory requirements.

    Is available to work standby and call-back.
    Is available to work at both TFH and IVCH.Demonstrates System Values in performance and behavior.

    Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Minimum of one year experience preferred.

    Has knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and techniques to facilitate the physician's performance of invasive and therapeutic procedures.
