    KERMAN UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT Job Description


    SCOPE:
    District-Wide 10004


    POSITION:
    District Nurse


    ACCOUNTABILITY:

    The District Nurse shall work directly under the supervision of the Director/Pupil Personnel Services/designee and will adhere to applicable laws, rules, and regulations of the state, county and school district governing board.

    The District Nurse shall be familiar and comply with all collective bargaining contracts pertinent to this position.


    MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Conducts medical assessments, screening, and referral activities related to health of pupils. 2. Assists in referring parents of pupils needing medical care or welfare assistance to appropriate private or community resources. 3. Conducts a program directed toward the control of communicable diseases in the school and community. 4. Serves as a health education resource person to staff and pupils. 5. Assists in identification of safety and health hazards on school sites. 6.

    Designs and implements a health maintenance plan to meet the individual health needs of the students, incorporating plans directed by a physician.

    7. Provides health counseling services for parents, students, and school personnel. 8. Maintains a health record for each pupil as needed. 9. Informs teachers of physical or health liabilities of pupils at school. 10. Provides for emergency nursing service for ill or injured pupils at school. 11.

    Notifies parents of pupils about illnesses, physical defects, and potential health problems and provides health counseling toward pursuit of appropriate action.

    12.

    Serves on the Special Education team, makes home visits, obtains health histories, administers neurological screening and informs team in written report.

    13. Assists the home-school liaison staff in meeting the objectives of the district's liaison services. 14. Attends meetings as required. 15. Shall perform all health related, state mandated duties and provide reports on same as required. 16. Shall exercise independent judgment in recommending the hiring, transfer, promotion, reward, discipline or assignment of work to appropriate employees. 17. Shall supervise and train appropriate employees in the delivery of health services. 18. Shall be familiar with and exercise the District evaluation procedures as they pertain to assigned personnel. 19. Collaborates with community agency representatives as required in the provision of student health services. 20. Shall possess and maintain a valid California driver's license. 21. Shall be familiar with and insure program compliance with all current collective bargaining contracts pertinent to the district. 22. Shall perform other job related duties as assigned on an equitable basis.


    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    l. Current Registered Nurse (RN) License. 2. Current CPR certification. 3. School experience preferred. 4. Willingness to update skills and knowledge commensurate with the demands of this position.


    REQUIRED EDUCATION:
    1. Appropriate credential for the position. 2. Professional Health Services Credential 3. Public Health Nurse Credential 4.
