    Our Salisbury, MD plant is looking for a strong Environmental, Heath and Safety Manager to join their team. The Safety and Security Manager leads safety & security efforts for assigned Salisbury manufacturing facility by maintaining a world-class culture through continually improving safety processes. Technical expert partnering with operation leadership to deliver operational results through impactful safety, health, and security solutions.

    Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    • Leads all safety & security efforts for Salisbury manufacturing facility with 600 associates.
    • Directly leads & manages daily activities and personnel matters of 2 facility hourly/salaried safety personnel and 7 security contract personnel to ensure resources are effectively and consistently employed in the organization.
    • Leads facility security team/guard force in managing security processes to include: developing/ administering site security practices and policies, supporting and tracking required key performance indicators including training objectives, and timely completion of site surveys and or audits.
    • Provides technical expertise for cross functional teams to ensure safe operational processes and capital/engineering projects.
    • Collaborates with functional experts in vehicle safety, corporate security, environmental, PSM, and other areas to align facility activities and objectives.
    • Provides interpretations for OSHA, NFPA, DHS, DOT, and other pertinent regulations to ensure processes and policies comply with applicable laws and regulations.
    • Interacts regularly with the hourly work force to promote safety awareness and works to resolve their safety issues and concerns.
    • Leads site safety business plan development by analyzing relevant data and tracking/reporting facility and corporate KPIs/metrics. Validates plans actions through internal safety and security auditing tracking findings through closure.
    • Provides training support to the organization and ensures that all required safety training is effectively completed on time.
    • Ensures effective investigations on all safety and security incidents are completed, participating actively during complex and high impact investigation.
    • Ensure root cause is determined and appropriate corrective actions developed, tracking recommendations to closure.
    • Utilizes incident data to develop action plans to address hazards and emerging trends.
    • Member of the incident command team and required to respond and or direct emergency response activities.
    • Liaisons for 3rd party assessments, audits, & inspections, i.e. insurance carrier, local fire department, risk engineering firms, OSHA, DHS, etc.
    • Maintains working relationship with permanent and temporary contractors to validate their safe work practices and supports their activities to maintain a superior safety environment at the facility.
    • Builds relationship with occupational health to improve worker safety, associate wellness, and case management for supported sites. Actively involved in workers compensation, assisting the occupational health nurse/third party administrator in effectively managing all open claims.
    • Keeps the management team informed of any safety, health, and security related issues and/or concerns identified within scope of responsibility.

    Minimum Education

    • Bachelors degree in safety, or related field.

    Experience Requirements

    • 2-3 years of progressively increasing safety & security responsibility with 1-2 years related experience in a manufacturing environment.
    • Demonstrated ability to self-direct work with minimal guidance and oversight.
    • Requires strong leadership skills and the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with hourly workforce, technical personnel, senior management, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills with proficient use of Microsoft office suite.
    • Ability to analyze and synthesize data to support safety initiatives.
    • Highly developed planning and organization skills.
    • Detailed knowledge of health and safety regulations issued by OSHA, workers compensation and other governmental agencies.

    Experience Preferred

    • 7+ years of progressively increasing safety & security responsibility with 3 - 5 years related experience in a manufacturing environment.
    • Multi-facility industrial safety experience; direct personnel management experience, professional safety or security certifications; bi-lingual capabilities; expert knowledge of health and safety disciplines as related to food processing.

    Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

    • Position requires occasional moving to other offices or buildings.
    • Day travel to nearby locations sometimes required.
    • Ability to support on multiple shifts required as need.
    • May need to move light equipment or supplies from one place to another.
    • May need to access files, supplies, and equipment.
    • Work activity is in an office, open-partitioned, cubicle environment.
    • When in a plant environment:
    • Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces.
    • May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity.
    • May handle product 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
    • May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db to 110 db.
    • May be exposed to all chemicals used in poultry, food, processing facility.
    • Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company.
