    Overview

    The Pediatric Hospitalist will practice in accordance with the philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards of Nationwide Children's Hospital.

    He/she will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate appropriate plans of care, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, in accordance with his/her scope of practice within the Special Care or Newborn Nurseries, delivery room, pediatric unit, and the emergency department.

    The pediatric hospitalist will provide family-centered care to meet family needs such as psychosocial support, education, and discharge planning in conjunction with the Advanced Practitioners, RN/Case Managers, and other disciplines.

    This position requires flexibility and adaptability to frequent assignment changes and varying daily clinical environments is needed.

    Responsibilities


    Responsibilities in the Regional Hospital setting will include but not be limited to the responsibility for care of pediatric patients (≤22years) including:1.

    Special Care Nursery (Level II)2. Normal newborn care3. Attendance at high risk deliveries4. Inpatient pediatric care5. Emergency Department consults6. Pediatric consults for surgery and inpatient pediatric psychiatry services.

    Qualifications


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • MD or DO degree.
    • License to practice medicine in the State of Ohio.
    • Board-eligible or board certified in Pediatrics.
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
    • Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) certification
    • Experience managing general pediatric inpatients, newborn nursery patients, special care nursery (SCN, Level II), pediatric emergency department and consults.
    Requirements of the Regional Pediatric Hospitalist Role1. Competence and confidence in high risk deliveries.a. Attended at least 25 high risk deliveries, prefer 50+.b. Competence in deliveries on preterm infants, as well as UVC placement/intubations of neonates.2. Ability to manage a pediatric code in the ED/manage airways.3.

    Ability to triage patients in ED either for safe discharge home, admission, or transfer to another facility either for high level of care or therapeutic/diagnostic interventions we don't have the capability of at our hospital.4.

    Ability to take initial interventions/stabilize a critically ill patient in the ED while awaiting transfer to another facility.5.

    Basic understanding of how to diagnose and treat the most common outpatient ED visits such as fevers, viral upper respiratory infections, otitis media, fever of unknown origin, asthma exacerbations, febrile seizures, etc.6.

    Competence in EMR use, and accountability for finalizing all notes orders prior to end of shift.
    Preferred Requirements1. Basic breastfeeding knowledge.2. Ability to perform circumcisions or willing to learn.


    Education:

    • Completed medical school in a fully accredited institution and completed training in an approved residency program.
    • Board certified or board-eligible pediatrician, holding a license to practice in the State of Ohio.
    • Certified with Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS)

    Experience:

    • Pediatric Care experience required.
    • Experience managing general pediatric inpatients, newborn nursery patients, special care nursery (SCN, Level II), and pediatric emergency department and consults required

    Must be able to move or reposition patients of any weight or size with the assistance of another person(s) and/or equipment.
