    Job Details:
    • Position Title: Director of Facilities
    • Status: Full-time, Exempt
    • Reports to: Chief Operations Officer
    • Department: Facilities
    Job Purpose:
    The Director of Facilities oversees all Museum campus building operating systems including facilities/maintenance, technical engineering services, landscaping, janitorial services and fire systems. The Director is also responsible for coordinating the cross-departmental logistics of the museum's events and programs, both internal and external, to ensure their operational success and an exceptional experience for all attendees. This position oversees all capital maintenance projects.

    Duties and Responsibilities included, but are not limited to:
    Facilities
    • Manage the building operating systems of the Museum and associated campus buildings, including residential buildings.
    • Responds to operational emergencies after-hours, nights, holidays and weekends as necessary
    • Maintenance of the HVAC, and fire safety systems through a systematic maintenance program.
    • Administer a long-term maintenance schedule of building, grounds, and facility repairs and replacements.
    • Maintain the capital replacement schedule and budget.
    • Negotiate and administer applicable outside service agreements and subcontractors.
    • Maintain strict temperature/humidity controls in gallery spaces.
    • Work with general contractor of Museum expansion project for integration of new museum operating systems with existing museum operating systems. Attend weekly OAC meetings.
    • Provide 24-hour response for Maintenance/HVAC emergencies.
    • Ensuring the facility complies with relevant laws, regulations and safety standards
    • Establish and maintain safety standards in facilities work activities and ensure proper use of chemicals and equipment in facilities maintenance and landscaping activities
    • Facilitates monthly safety meetings
    Operational Logistics
    • Works with the various departments to provide logistical consultation, coordination, and support for all programs and events.
    • Oversees all event and programming set-up and break-down.
    • Assists in the facilitating of weekly Operations Meetings.
    • Conducts post event and programming reviews to provide continuous improvement in processes.
    Leadership and Management
    • Hire, train, motivate and develop reporting staff members
    • Provide effective staff development, coaching, goal setting, mentorship, performance management and accountability designed to achieve optimum results.
    • Guide staff in achieving defined goals on an ongoing basis.
    • Develop and manage the annual building maintenance and capital budgets and consult with other department heads on their budgets related to events and programs working closely with the CFO and COO.
    • Establish and maintain department's procedures and best practices.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    Other Requirements:
    • Must be available to work on nights, weekends, holidays and after-hours as needed
    • Must be able to stay at the museum if inclement weather threatens our area or any other disastrous situation threatens the facility.
    Qualifications:
    • 10+ years of management experience in a museum or other related facility setting preferred.
    • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or similar field is preferred.
    • Excellent customer services skills: ability to interact effectively with visitors, vendors, donors & Trustees.
    • Ability to coordinate activities and events, analyze diverse situations and recommend appropriate course of action.
    • Demonstrated leadership with the ability to work across functional boundaries; build consensus; and drive results.
    • Knowledge of OSHA standards and safety procedures
    • Excellent problem-solving and strategic-planning skills.
    • A high degree of patience, good humor, and fortitude in managing relationships with various constituents; including other departments, guests, and patrons.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills.
    • Experience operating a chiller plant over 400 tons.
    • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Software.
    • Ability to think, communicate clearly, and act quickly in emergency situations.
    • MS Office, Word, Excel, Outlook required.
    Physical Requirements:
    • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
    • Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; reaching above shoulder level
