    We are seeking candidates for the position of Veh Equip Mech-2nd Cl in the .

    *Starting Pay Rate: $21.06/hour - progressing to $35.10 after 48 Months, based on applicable contract.

    OVERALL DESCRIPTION

    Under general supervision, diagnoses and make repairs and replacements of routine mechanical, electrical and pneumatic systems on vehicles and related vehicle equipment.

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To be proficient in the diagnosis of routine mechanical, electrical and pneumatic trouble, makes unit replacements and adjustment on vehicle equipment, makes repairs incidental to state inspections.
  • Replaces such items as diaphragms, slack adjusters, application valves, air hoses, front axle assemblies, quick release and relay valves, mufflers, exhaust pipes, etc.
  • Adjusts brakes and clutches; uses feelers to tolerance of .002 inch; checks assembly for concentricity.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • ADDITIONAL SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
    • High School diploma or GED.
    • Must satisfactorily complete qualifications and performance tests as required.
    • Must have a valid driver's license and be able to obtain a CDL ( SEPTA will provide CDL training)
    • Must be able to work a varied shift.
    • Graduate from an accredited technical school in the automotive repair field with certification required.
    • In lieu of recent certification from certification from accredited technical school in related field, one year of work experience in the repair of gas or diesel engines is an acceptable equivalent.
    • Must have experience as an automotive mechanic, with experience repairing engines, transmissions, etc.
    • Must possess tools pertinent to occupation.
