Role Responsibilities

The Psychologist positon, under the supervision of the Authority Services Psychology Manager, is responsible for the Centers systems for determining eligibility for persons seeking admission to Intellectual Developmental Disability (IDD) services. Handicapping conditions included in the Centers priority population include those who meet diagnostic criteria for developmental intellectual disability, autism-spectrum disorder, or related condition (as specified by inclusion on the HHSC approved list of related conditions). The position is responsible for the adherence to and promotion of the agency compliance policy. Work hours are M-F, 8-5, at the Texana Center Service Center in Rosenberg. The duties of the position include, but are not limited to:

Conducting comprehensive psychological evaluations consistent with state guidelines regulating the practice of conducting a Determination of Intellectual Disability (DID) assessment. Necessary components include a face-to-face clinical interview with caregiver(s) accompanying the applicant to gather pertinent background information and to conduct a standardized informant-based assessment of adaptive behavior; face-to-face standardized assessment of the applicants intellectual and related abilities, wrap-up session with applicant and representative(s) to discuss findings and service needs; and preparation of a written report of findings which addresses family history, medical history, educational/vocational history, behavioral and/or mental health issues, pertinent behavioral observations, current test results with interpretation, diagnostic impressions, and conclusions/recommendations/considerations.
Performing crisis support through preliminary analysis of behavioral presenting problems, and assisting individuals in accessing crisis services; and
Providing clinical consultation and technical assistance to the Authority Services Division staff regarding diagnosis and treatment issues for persons with developmental disabilities.

Salary

$70,000 to $85,000
Commensurate with Experience

Required Education and/or Certifications, Experience, Skills

PhD in Psychology.
Licensure by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists; or
State Certification as an Authorized Provider and current licensure as;

A provisionally licensed psychologist;

A licensed psychological associate (LPA); or

A licensed specialist in school psychology (LSSP)

Experience in the assessment of individuals with childhood-onset intellectual disability and/or autism-spectrum disorder.
Experience in the use of assessment techniques pertaining to cognitive functions, receptive and expressive language development, visual-motor integration, adaptive functions, and qualitative abnormalities in development.
Experience in the use and application of diagnostic criteria specified in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th Edition (DSM-5).
Experience preparing written psychological reports.

Preferred Education and/or Certifications, Experience, Skills

Experience conducting assessments of both children and adults within the developmentally disabled population.
Experience participating in service plan team meetings to assist in development of service plans by providing information about potential psychological factors.
Experience providing clinical consultation to staff members for diagnosis clarification or making service planning recommendations.
Bilingual English and Spanish.
Ability to work with computers and automated charting.

Job Related Physical Requirements

Must be able to perform moderate to heavy lifting (15#- 45#), pushing, stooping, light carrying (15#), repeated bending, reaching above shoulder, simple grasping, hearing, walking, sitting and twisting
Must have ability to see, write, operate office equipment, operate a motor vehicle and have depth perception.
Qualified individual must be able to perform these functions with or without reasonable accommodations
