    Job Summary:

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION

    Researches, tests, evaluates, recommends, and installs multi-user and client-server software. Coordinates activities of staff who provide software-level problem-solving to computer users.

    Job Duties:

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Advises System Administrators and Programmers in solving non-routine software, hardware, and procedure problems.
    • Develops engineering of System Administrator related solutions for various projects and operational needs.
    • Installs new and rebuilds existing servers, and configures enterprise hardware and storage solutions, clustering and virtualization, peripherals, services, settings, directories, etc., per standards and project operational requirements.
    • Develops and maintains installation and configuration procedures.
    • Contributes to and maintains system standards.
    • Researches and recommends innovative automated approaches for system administration tasks.
    • Identifies approaches that leverage resources and provide economies of scale.
    • Performs daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
    • Performs regular security monitoring to identify any possible issues.
    • Performs daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up according to set operational standards.
    • Performs regular file archival and purge as necessary.
    • Provides Tier III support per request from various constituencies.
    • Investigates Investigate and troubleshoots issues.
    • Repairs and recovers from hardware or software failures.
    • Coordinates and communicates with impacted constituencies.
    • Applies OS patches and upgrades regularly and upgrades administrative tools and utilities.
    • Configures and adds new services as necessary.
    • Upgrades and configures system software that supports applications per project or operational needs.
    • Maintains operational, configuration, or other procedures.
    • Performs periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
    • Performs ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.
    • Configures CPU memory and disk partitions as required.

    LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY

    Performs work under minimal supervision.

    Handles complex issues and problems, and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff.

    Possesses comprehensive knowledge of subject matter.

    Acts as a lead.

    Qualifications:

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • An additional four (4) years of related computer experience, with at least one (1) year of Systems Administrator experience.
    • Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.
    • Knowledge of installation, troubleshooting, and optimization preferred.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft, Linux, Unix, and/or various operating systems.
    • Familiar with computer coding and programming.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

    • This position works with several departments outside of IT daily and therefore must possess a high level of patience and professionalism when working with other employees who will have a varying range of computer competencies
