    Job Summary:

    Implements the Camp Naper curriculum of activities as developed by the Learning Experiences Department and as directed by the Learning Experiences Team Leader. Communicates the interpretive themes of Naper Settlement by conducting educational programs and interacting with campers to provide a quality museum experience that is both fun and educational. Represents the museum to the families participating in camp and the public in a safe, orderly and customer service focused manner. May 28, 2024-August 2, 2024.

    Job Scope:

    Responsible for the general safety and development, growth and skill achievement of campers while conducting weekly themed camp programs at Naper Settlement. No budgetary responsibilities.

    Principle Duties and Responsibilities 1. CONDUCTS weeklong or daily historically themed camps.

    2. IMPLEMENTS a variety of small and large group camp activities as outlined by curriculum.

    3. ASSISTS Learning Experiences Team Leader with developing camp activities as requested by Director of Learning Experiences.

    4. INTERPRETS skills, crafts, occupations, pastimes and other demonstrations as denoted by camp curriculum.

    5. RESEARCH 19th and 20th centuries to present history and STEM/STEAM for interpretive use in children's camps, as requested.

    6. PREPARES materials, including appropriate sign-in paperwork and communicates with camp parents.

    7. MAINTAINS a safe camp environment by following established policies and procedures.

    8. Identifies and responds to camper behavior issues in accordance with Camp Naper best practices.

    9. PERFORMS all other duties as assigned.

    Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Skills in public speaking, customer service, organization, and educational techniques. Knowledge of or interest in American, Illinois and Naperville history. Ability to develop and organize creative educational experiences. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to work a flexible schedule. Ability to work with children of all ages.

    Essential Functions:

    1. Ability to operate office equipment in order to send and receive information with necessary optical, auditory, and manual dexterity.

    2. Ability to analyze, compute and audit information.

    3. Ability to walk, sit, or stand for an hour or more at a time.

    4. Ability to closely examine a computer screen or written reports.

    5. Ability to distinguish colors.

    6. Ability to use a keyboard to enter, retrieve or transfer words or data.

    7. Ability to closely examine computer screen or written reports.

    8. Ability to read, comprehend and speak English and be able to demonstrate twelfth grade reading skills.

    9. Ability to proofread and check documents for errors.

    10. Ability to operate or observe office equipment for an hour or more at a time.

    11. Ability to lift 25 or more pounds.

    Minimum Education, Experience and Certification Requirements A commitment of 9 weeks during the summer is required. Position begins May 28, 2024-August 2, 2024. Bachelor's degree in elementary, secondary or special education with teaching certification preferred. One year of experience in a related field required. Previous museum, childcare or teaching experience preferred.
