    Job Description

    This position is based at Evapco's Greenup, IL facility and will report to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.

    This position will promote improvements to the overall welding quality and process improvements of all welding processes through constant partnership with corporate engineering and leading in-house training and qualification programs.


    Major Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Commit to safety procedures
    • Follow all Evapco Engineering standards
    • Initiate travelers for preparation of Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) and Welding Material test samples
    • Formalize and release WPS and Procedure Qualification Record (PQR) from completed travelers and approved test results
    • Initiate procurement action by preparing and processing purchase orders for all weld material tests and all welder performance and procedure qualification sample testing
    • Set up and maintain master WPS and PQR files in accordance with ASME Section IX requirements
    • Set up and maintain record of welder or welding operator qualification tests for each welder's qualification file, in accordance with ASME Section IX
    • Prepare and issue/maintain operator qualification matrix at least every six months or whenever sufficient changes occur warranting reissuance, in accordance with ASME Section IX requirements
    • Assist in Engineering, Quality and Product Development departments with any technical issues regarding welding and fabricability requirements for projects
    • Apply knowledge of production specifications, properties and characteristics of metals and metal alloys to develop welding techniques, procedures, and application of welding equipment to problems involving fabrication of metals
    • Develop and test new fabrication processes and procedures, improve existing or develop new welding equipment, develop new or modify current welding methods, techniques, and procedures
    • Identify and evaluate latest welding equipment, materials and techniques for possible application to shop welding practices or production processes
    • Serve as customer contact for technical issues regarding welding requirements
    • Guide, assist, and supervise the inhouse welder training program

    Skills Required:

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, leadership abilities, problem solving and analytical skills
    • Excellent PCbased application skills such as MS Office (Word, Excel, Power-Point)
    • Ability to work in a teamoriented environment to meet customer requirements and expectations
    • Ability to lead change and innovation
    • Ability to solve problems analytically with root cause analysis tools

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • B.S. degree in Weld Engineering or an Engineering or Weldingrelated field.
    • Minimum 1 year of previous work experience in Welding Engineering or a welding related field.
    • Experience with the ASME Section IX Welding Code, AWS D1.1, ASME B31.5 Welding Codes strongly preferred.
    • AWS Certified Weld Engineer (CWEng) Certification
