POSITION SUMMARY: Medical Reserve Corps volunteers work to improve local public health emergency response capabilities, reduce potential public health risks and vulnerabilities, and build community preparedness and resilience. Training and educational activities may include, but are not limited to, medical certifications such as First Aid and CPR, Incident Command courses, and on-site exercises. Volunteers may respond to public health emergencies in the Wildcat Region during a deployment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Learn and understand the mission and purpose of the Wildcat Region MRC
Gain knowledge of job duties associated with the MRC such as emergency preparedness and response, logistical and administrative tasks, and medical and behavioral health support services.
Respond timely to public health emergencies in the Wildcat region when called upon.
Attend periodic meetings and annual trainings.
Maintain the Medical Reserve Corps image to the community representing service and professionalism.
Perform other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; licensed human or animal medical professionals desired but not required Experience: 1 year volunteer work preferred; 1 year logistics planning, acquisition, storage, or deployment experience beneficial; 1 year command and control in emergency response preferred but training will be provided.
Appropriate combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of the above requirements.
SKILLS/ABILITIES: Must be fluent in English. Ability to speak other languages helpful, not required. Ability to organize complex work functions in a rapidly changing and uncertain environment. Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations. Ability to communicate both written and orally using modern technology.
Public health facility requires a non-smoker.
This position may have access to protected health information (PHI) under the provision of the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) Privacy Rule and is responsible to treat PHI in accordance with the provisions of the HIPAA Privacy Regulation including the requirements for safeguarding, releasing, and recording the release of such information.

While performing the duties of this job, the volunteer is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, reach with hands and arms; talk and hear with both ears. The employee must occasionally lift/pushes/pulls 20-50lbs, frequently lifts up of 10-25lbs and constant lift of up to 10lbs, may be standing for at least one hour, and may be exposed to outdoor environment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color identification.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described represent those encountered while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
While performing the duties of this job, the volunteer may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to excessive and may require hearing protection. This position may be exposed to biohazard materials depending on the assigned duty.
The volunteer may encounter critically high stress conditions during and following emergency and disaster situations. Due to the nature and variety of emergencies the MRC responds to, staff may encounter and be exposed to difficult and/or graphic scenes that include injury and death.
