    East African Healing ServicesPOSITION TITLE:Housing Support Specialist.

    AGENCY DESCRIPTION: East African Healing Services (EAHS) is an association of African, mainstream, and other refugee and immigrant human service providers certified by the Minnesota Department of Human Services. We recognize there is a unique cultural difference between providers and new immigrants arriving in Mn. We are committed to providing services to immigrants and refugees in their own language and in ways that are trustworthy to them. We believe that the relatively recent arrival of diverse populations in Minnesota and their previous war and refugee camp experiences, added to the particular language, cultural and religious characteristics of each population, have made it difficult for mainstream providers to give effective services.

    PURPOSE OF POSITION: The purpose of this job is to assist patients/clients find resources for affordable housing.

    Responsibilities

  • Create customized participant-driven housing stability plans based on participants' unique strengths and barriers
  • Support participants through the housing application process and provide transition services as they prepare to move in and set up a home
  • Contribute to helping participants sustain long-term housing by ensuring leases are understood, promoting personal & building safety, and preventing eviction
  • Assist participants in maintaining or increasing income through benefits assistance employment activities
  • Keep accurate, up-to-date documentation, including but not limited to goal plans, case notes, incident reports, funder data
  • Utilize skills and community resources to provide crisis prevention and intervention
  • Help residents build social support systems with family, peers, neighbors, etc
  • Qualifications

  • A course of study in a health or human services-related field leading to a Bachelor of Art, Bachelor of Science, or Associate degree
  • 1-3 years of experience with the target population served
  • Valid driver's license and insurance, successfully complete a motor vehicle records screen, reliable vehicle, and ability to transport participants

  • Compensation: $21.00-$23.00 Hr., DOQ
  • Summer half-day Fridays
  • Ability to work remotely 40% of your weekly work schedule
