    Sartorius is growing and has an exciting opportunity for an Imaging Engineer to be based onsite in our Ann Arbor, MI office.

    In this position you will be a part of a dynamic team looking at cutting edge technologies to help enhance and expand our product portfolio.

    You will serve in critical support of the integration of emerging microscopy & spectroscopy - imaging technologies into a POC or prototype system for Sartorius' mid to long-term bio-analytics portfolio providing leading edge analysis platforms for basic research and the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.

    In the broader role you will work with internal and external subject matter experts to identify and understand the nature of nascent technologies, including both spectroscopic and of optical (visible light based) systems.

    In instances where proof of concept has been established you will aid in the assessment of the feasibility of implementation of the technology into existing platforms.

    You are expected to build relationships and work closely with external and internal teams, to ultimately build forward looking technologies that can provide a basis for future commercial products.

    You will be part of a globally distributed team.

    You will support the generation of requirements and designs to build breadboard prototypes in emerging technologies.
    You will design and execute experiments to test biological applications.

    You will function as an independent contributor to the development of optical imaging and spectroscopic technologies for the evolution of current and future Sartorius Bioanalytic products.

    You will work closely with other team members to prioritize areas of technology research, expected to extend beyond current product roadmaps.

    You will provide guidance and oversight to software developers and hardware engineers in integrating imaging subsystems into breadboards or existing platforms.

    You will provide support or guidance to the technical support team and R&D teams as needed for the transfer of technologies developed and/or adopted into the Sartorius product development or OEM organizations.

    You will be working in a Biosafety Level 2 Laboratory as well as work with laser systems.

    What Will Convince Us


    You have completed a MS, (PhD preferred) in Biophysics, Physics, Chemistry or other closely related discipline with substantial formal education and experience with optical biological imaging technologies.

    Other engineering or scientific disciplines as applied to the same.
    You have experience & knowledge of state-of the-art biological imaging technologies and their application for research and development.

    You have extensive experience and knowledge of current developments in any of Raman, 3D Light sheet, OCT, Fluorescence or other spectroscopic/imaging technologies.

    You have at minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with optical subsystems in image collection systems.

    You possess solid foundation in basic image processing techniques: enhancement, feature recognition and segmentation, proficiency with tools commonly used for developing and implementing image analysis, e.g., MATLAB, R, Python, ImageJ, C++, etc., familiarity with software tools used in imaging platforms.

    You have demonstrated ability to interface with specialists from target biological application areas and engineering disciplines such as mechanical (hardware, fluidic, thermal), electrical, software, sensor technology (optical, electronical), and chemical.

    You have experience working as part of multi-partner R&D projects.
    You have strong analytical and mathematical ability.
    You have the ability to work constructively in a team environment.
    You must possess strong personal initiative and be results oriented.
    You have strong troubleshooting skills.
    You have experience with documentation control systems.

    You demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of clearly expressing technical concepts to people with various levels of technical expertise and diverse cultural backgrounds.

    You have the ability to travel (approximately 5% to 10% domestic and/or international travel)
