- Engage in teaching and scholarly activities focused in the area of clinical teaching.
- Exemplify and teach to other teachers, at the local and national level, both time-tested and new methods to create and maintain in students and residents the joy of the science and art of medicine.
- Teach courses and mentor undergraduate and graduate medical students to advance the educational mission of UC Davis.
- Conduct research on clinical teaching and perform service to the Health System and the broader community in which it is situated.
- Provide leadership in the area of clinical teaching and be fully engaged in activities in the School of Medicine and the UC Davis Health System.
- Enhance the academic and intellectual life of the campus as a whole.

Position Overview:
INTERNAL RECRUITMENT TO UC DAVIS ONLY. The Dean's Endowed Professorship in Clinical Teaching Excellence provides additional funding to a current UC Davis academic appointee. The additional funding may support the endowed professorship holder in areas of teaching, research, and service directly related to the purpose of the endowment.
The holder of the Dean's Endowed Professorship for Clinical Teaching Excellence will be a senior faculty member in the School of Medicine whose specialty is in the area of clinical teaching and whose distinguished scholarship is nationally recognized.
The initial term of the Dean's Endowed Professorship for Clinical Teaching Excellence is for five years, with the option of reappointment per regularly established University procedures for endowed chair/professorship appointments (APM 191, UCD 191).
The endowment pay out will support the chair's efforts in research, teaching and service and further the mission of the School of Medicine, the UC Davis Health System, and the campus.
It is expected that the holder of the endowed chair will advance appropriately through the faculty ranks on the basis of his/her scholarly activities, teaching, University and public service.
