    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Physical therapists in the educational setting provide specially designed instruction and related services. The physical therapist collaborates with families and educational team members to develop appropriate education programs and advises on health related concerns as they impact education for students with special needs. The program goal is to help students to function as independently as possible within the least restrictive environment.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
    • Evaluate student physical, motor, mobility skills, and the classroom/school environment to identify performance deficits that interfere with student development, learning, and access to education and the school environment.
    • Synthesize evaluation results into a comprehensive written report reflecting student strengths and barriers to participation in the educational environment and identifying the need for physical therapy services.
    • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to review evaluation results, integrate findings with other disciplines, and develop recommendations.
    • Develop and implement physical therapy intervention plans using various service delivery models.
    • Coordinate services with the IEP team and parents.
    • Identify, adapt, and modify equipment as necessary.
    • Supervise licensed physical therapy assistants.
    • Provide training to classroom teachers and paraprofessionals on intervention techniques.
    OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Perform additional duties as assigned to ensure the effective functioning of the work unit and support student learning objectives.
    Additional responsibilities may be required as needed.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    Education and Experience
    High school diploma or equivalent
    Possess degree in Physical Therapy.
    Possess current Washington State Physical Therapy license.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
    Work scheduled hours consistently

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    Excellent communication skills and effective problem-solving ability

    CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
    Criminal background clearance
    Possess, or able to acquire within the first year of employment, Educational Staff Associate (ESA) certification.
    Willingness to learn job-related computer skills

    WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment may involve indoor conditions and the use of video displays. Moderate noise levels may be present, and personal protective equipment is provided when necessary.

    WORK SCHEDULE
    Typically 180 working days per year, averaging 7.5 hours per day.

    REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
    Reports to and evaluated by the Director of Student Support Services.

    LEVEL OF COMPENSATION
    Based on the current state salary schedule and timesheeted.
