    About the role:
    Do you have a genuine interest in working for an organization tackling online harms - from violent extremism and gender-based violence to disinformation and child online exploitation? Do you have experience working in this sector or related sectors and want to develop further?


    Moonshot is looking for an experienced Threat Intelligence leader to oversee our US program of research and analysis into online violent extremism, targeted violence, and other online harms.

    We are open to filling this role at either Head of or Senior Manager level depending on the level of experience of the selected candidate.


    In this role, you will oversee a team of analysts responsible for analyzing quantitative and qualitative open source data to identify emerging trends in online extremism for a variety of clients including federal and state government, law enforcement, fusion centers and private organizations.

    They are responsible for regular delivery of analytic products for public safety and security organizations, as well as analysis for longer term research projects and public reports.

    In this role, you will engage with clients to understand their research, situational awareness, and threat assessment needs and ensure analytic and product excellence is delivered to our clients.

    You will also work with our global team to advance our research methodologies and technology.

    Moonshot's offices are based in Washington, DC. We offer flexible work options including hybrid and remote. Candidates from across the US will be considered. If based outside of Washington, DC occasional travel to Washington, DC may be required.


    Your responsibilities will include:
    Expanding the scope and quality of Moonshot's Threat Insights program to meet clients' needs.


    Interpreting diverse forms of data, including social media metrics, surveys, interviews, violent extremist material and data gathered by our in-house specialist software to analyze online extremist activity.

    Ensuring analytic products meet our high standard of quality and deliver valuable findings in a concise and robust manner.

    Conducting briefings and speeches about our insights for clients, policymakers, practitioners, and the public.

    Management of insights projects, including ensuring delivery within agreed timeframes and budgets.

    Managing key relationships with clients, partner organizations and other stakeholders.

    Identification and management of project risks.

    Leading a small to a medium-sized project team.

    Supporting our business development by identifying and applying for funding opportunities, building relationships with clients and partner organizations.

    Requirements


    Essential:


    Deep subject matter expertise from professional or research experience working on domestic violent extremism and/or international terrorism across the ideological spectrum.


    Experience developing and delivering major research or intelligence / threat assessment products - analyzing data from a wide range of traditional and non-traditional platforms and producing actionable, decision quality reporting.


    Knowledge of the legal landscape of open source intelligence methods, particularly in the context of providing products to government clients.

    Experience with open source intelligence (OSINT) tools, techniques and procedures.


    Experience in quantitative methods for social science and specialist quantitative skills, including open source intelligence tools, data visualization, database management (SQL), Python, Tableau visualization or other data analysis toolsets.

    Experience with public speaking and stakeholder engagement.

    Proven and demonstrable project management line management experience equivalent to at least 5 years experience.

    Bachelor's degree or equivalent demonstrable experience.


    Demonstrable ability to work under pressure, taking action and getting things done, both in managing your own workload and that of others.

    Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

    Willingness to be on-call and work outside regular working hours in response to incidents and relevant events.

    In addition, we require and will check on candidates' eligibility to work in the US alongside vaccination status. Candidates will be expected to undertake and pass any relevant security clearance procedures per the needs of clients.


    Desirable:
    An existing network within the US national security sector.

    Subject matter expertise in one of the following areas: hate crime, human trafficking, child sexual exploitation and abuse (CSEA).

    Fluency in languages other than English.
