    Job Overview:


    The Senior Process Engineer position requires strong working knowledge and experience in fire protection and/or process safety, safety in design practices, analysis methods and broad knowledge and application of regulatory codes and industry standards.

    The position reports functionally to the Manager HSE Engineering or project Process Lead Engineer.

    Responsibilities for Internal Candidates


    Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

    Project Support:
    Fully familiar with project scope of work, specifications, applicable codes and standards, schedule and inter-discipline requirements
    Apply knowledge and skills to a wide range of standard and non-standard project situations; provides technical concepts and solutions
    Interact with other disciplines in identifying and addressing issues early and works to communicate and establish understanding of complex issues and help on the development of solutions
    Complete work assignments under minimal supervision
    Manage own time to meet budget and schedule commitments

    Technical Safety:
    Perform fire protection and safety studies, analyses and design for conceptual, FEED, and detailed design projects
    Prepare safety and firefighting equipment specifications and data sheets; provide technical support to requisitioning of safety and firefighting equipment
    Perform firewater demand and hydraulics calculations; prepare firewater distribution and deluge system P&IDs
    Develop fire and gas detector layouts and fire alarm specifications
    Prepare study scope of work including terms of reference, procedures and specifications for third party service requisitions
    Prepare quality reports including clear and accurate summary of modelling analyses and calculations; review third party safety study reports
    Apply knowledge and skills in consequence modeling using PHAST, such as fire and risk explosion consequence assessment, toxic release dispersion and effects, flare stack assessment and process vent dispersion analysis
    Coordinate, assist and oversee in quantitative risk assessment (QRA) and other technical safety studies.

    Interpret results of QRA, consequence analysis and technical safety studies and apply them in the development of risk reduction measures.

    Incorporate technical study results into the plant design, layout and siting of buildings, or in verifications of engineering design packages

    Safety Workshops:
    Coordinate and oversees the execution of safety workshops (such as HAZID/ENVID, HAZOP/LOPA, SIL Determination, EERA, ESSA, etc.) and provide input to study facilitator during preparations; participate in workshop meetings
    Develop study basis (Terms of Reference) for hazard identification studies (HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, EERA, ESSA, etc.)
    Review accuracy of safety study worksheets and provide input to facilitator during workshop meetings and prior to final issue of study reports
    Develop knowledge and skills in functional safety requirements; participate in planning and execution of functional safety reviews and assessments
    Prepare safety instrumented function (SIF) summary based on PHA/LOPA and SIL Determination study results
    Provide input to I&C for preparation of SIS safety requirement specifications (SRS) and for the development of fire & gas system (FGS) C&E diagrams
    Participate in 3D model reviews

    Qualifications for Internal Candidates


    Essential Qualifications and Education:
    Bachelor's degree in fire protection engineering, chemical engineering or related field
    6+ years' experience
    Professional working proficiency with NFPA, API, IEC, CCPS and other industry codes and standards
    Proficient in MS office suite and Engineering software design tools (i.e., PHAST, PIPENET, etc.)
    Able to prepare, supervise and review quality technical reports
    Self-starter and ability to work independently
    Relates well to all levels and kinds of people
    Full command of verbal and written English communication skills


    Preferred Qualifications and Education:
    Masters level education
    P.E. certificate of registration or Registered CSP/CSE or CCPSC or Registered CFPS
    PHA Leadership Training or experience
    Functional Safety Training. Certification at level 1 desirable (FSE or CFSP)
    Experience in oil & gas and/or petrochemical industry
    Professional working proficiency in Environmental engineering and Human factors (Permits, code regulation, etc.)
