    Job Summary:


    Under the direction of the Registered Nurse performs a variety of duties related to the care and treatment of patients.

    Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities


    • Assists patients with ADL's.
    • Demonstrates proficiency with the taking of vital signs, treatments, procedures, and equipment as demonstrated by the skills checklist and documents appropriately.
    • Weighs, lifts moves, positions and transports patients as appropriate.
    • Communicates changes in patient condition in a timely manner.
    • Maintains a safe and pleasant environment for the patient.
    • Promptly answers patient lights.
    • Maintains adequate stock of supplies in each patient room.
    • Maintains par levels of the clean supply and medication rooms, re-orders items as needed, keeps an accurate list of supplies, re-stocks shelves and maintains a clean environment.
    • Demonstrates the ability to recognize and deal with emergencies (example CPR, code blue button).
    • Correctly adds forms to all records as needed (i.e. doctor's orders, progress notes).
    • Exchanges needle boxes, replaces gloves in all patient rooms and participates in maintaining a clean, clutter-free environment.
    • Assists with patient transports at the request of the nurse in charge.
    • Demonstrates competency in the following areas by physical demonstration or written exam: Equipment, Age appropriate behaviors, and Interventions, Blood Glucose monitoring, patient safety devices, EKG procedure, venipuncture, urine testing, and handling of other specimens that may be required.
    • Reviews, attends, and signs all in-service updates.
    • Actively participates in own performance appraisal.
    • Gathers data to assist Registered Nurse with assessments.
    • Performs scheduled and as needed cleaning of medical equipment and maintaining cleaning logs.
    • Regular rounding in all clinical areas; assisting with hourly rounding
    • Maintains infection control processes for all patient populations. (Utilize face shields/mask, gloves, protective clothing, safety glasses, and other protection associated with the care of patients).
    Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for the Position


    Ability to:

    • Abides by standards of practice and behavioral standards within a patient and family centered environment
    • The Patient Care Tech role functions as a supportive role and is not intended to replace the role of the primary RN. Clinical skills and tasks/interventions are performed under the direction or delegation of the RN.
    • Ability to use a telephone, fax, copier, and all other equipment associated with nursing practice.
    • Ability to stand/walk 90% of the shift, frequent pushing, climbing, bending, reaching, stooping, squatting and helping lift objects and patients ranging from five (5) to three hundred (300) pounds.
    • Ability to use hands, fingers, arms and wrists, hearing, smell, and verbal skills are required in order to perform job duties.
    • English language proficiency in speaking, reading, writing and typing is required.
    Credentials and Experience Required


    For SEIU PCT Grade 10:

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Three years of related experience preferred
    • Completion of IS 100 and decontamination training
    • Completion of Sitter training.
    • BLS - CPR

    SEIU PCT Grade 12:

    • Qualified applicants who hold EMT or LPN credentials
    Special Requirements


    • Available to work day, evening and/or night shift. Rotation on weekends as assigned. Rotate to units as assigned.
    • Willing to work additional shifts as assigned.
    • May be exposed to the following hazards: temperature fluctuations, moderate noise levels, minimal dust, infectious diseases and other chemicals as customarily used in a hospital setting. Exposure to various hazards in handling patient transports.
    • Available to work overtime as needed to complete all job duties.
    • Must be available to work in the case of a Hospital declared emergency.
