- Responsible for overseeing the histology lab, including developing, implementing, and maintaining histology standard operating procedures (SOPs), labor management, and strategic plans under the direction of the Director of Lab Operations.
- Provide daily direction and supervision to Histotechnologists and Lab Assistants. This will include coordinating PRN staff for adequate coverage.
- Responsible for training and employee competencies for all direct reports.
- Assists the Director of Pathology in meeting department regulatory requirements (CAP, CLIA, etc.).
- Responsible for tissue specimen processing, including accessioning, grossing, embedding, microtomy, performing H&E staining, and coverslipping all surgical specimen slides for microscopic analysis.
- Responsible for Cytology specimen processing, staining, and coverslipping.
- Loading the blocks on the processor, ensuring quality and timeliness of production.
- Process slides for immunohistochemistry and modify and validate procedures and methodologies for immunohistochemistry, special staining, and related staining.
- Organize cases by matching slides with appropriate paperwork and laying slides out in slide folders.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, such as microtomes, tissue processors, embedding machines, and automated strainers, as well as troubleshooting equipment and automated instrumentation within the laboratory.
- Implement and adhere to quality control measures to maintain the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results. Recognize and address any deviations from established protocols.
- Maintain meticulous records of specimens, procedures, and results. Ensure proper labeling, tracking, and documentation of samples.
- Maintain supplies and other inventory.
- An associate's degree and completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) Accredited Certificate Program are required and will be verified prior to employment.
- HT or HTL certification is required and will be verified prior to employment.
- Minimum of 5 years of Histology experience, two years serving in a supervisory role.
- Immunohistochemistry experience required. Qualification in Immunohistochemistry strongly desired.
- Excellent embedding, sectioning, and histology techniques with human tissues.
- Ability to multi-task, self-motivation, reliability, and accountability in meeting timelines.
- Excellent computer software and data analysis skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Position Summary:
The Histology Managerplays a pivotal role in the field of medical laboratory science by overseeing tissue specimens for microscopic examination. Working directly under the supervision of the Director of Laboratory Operations and Director of Pathology, the Histology Manager is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of the histology laboratory by coordinating technical, administrative, personnel, and quality assurance activities. Approximately 75% of the time will be bench work and 25% administrative time.
