    About the Office of Information Technology

    The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides information technology leadership and support to the Georgia Institute of Technology, working in partnership with academic and business units to meet the unique needs of a leading research university. OIT serves as the primary source of enterprise-wide information technology and telecommunications services in support of students, faculty, staff, and researchers.

    Job Summary



    Provide IT service support through monitoring and troubleshooting computer systems, networks and related infrastructure within the Office of Information Technology Network Operations Center (NOC). Work under general supervision from shift supervisor or manager. May provide work direction to lower level Data Center Specialists. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: other NOC staff members, system users. This position typically will advise and counsel: system users, lower level staff members. This position will supervise: NA.

    Responsibilities



    Job Duty 1 -
    Diagnose and resolve technical problems with computer systems, applications, networks and computer center infrastructure.

    Job Duty 2 -
    Troubleshoot problems; resolve or escalate as appropriate.

    Job Duty 3 -
    Install, configure and maintain monitoring systems for servers, applications, networks and computer center infrastructure.

    Job Duty 4 -
    Prepare and update documentation, configuration files and system logs.

    Job Duty 5 -
    Perform backups, process campus IP/DNS requests, install equipment and wiring and train lower level specialists.

    Job Duty 6 -
    Provide customer support to users via phone, email and counter.

    Job Duty 7 -
    Remain current on new technologies and changes to systems environment.

    Job Duty 8 -
    Perform other duties as assigned

    Required Qualifications



    Educational Requirements
    Technical Diploma, Associate's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

    Scope of this position is broad, encompassing a diverse portfolio of responsibility areas. Position supports a constantly evolving, fast-paced, large complex organization with high standards for work quality.

    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities



    SKILLS
    This job requires working knowledge of specific operating and networking systems including shell scripts, system administration, troubleshooting procedures, use of monitoring tools and system backups. Also required are basic electro-mechanical knowledge of data center systems (UPS, HVAC, structured cabling, fire suppression, etc.) and tools and verbal and written communications skills.
