- Provides diagnostic psychological testing to help determine the need and the eligibility of a student for supportive and special education services at school;
- Interprets the results of an individual evaluation, planning and implementation of in-service work with teachers, and prevention of mental health problems through group discussions designed to deal with both the healthy and unhealthy aspects of adolescent development;
- Provides consultation and direction with curriculum modification, behavior intervention strategies, and what school and community resources are available and how best to utilize those resources;
- Involved in research which is directed at effective functioning within the school setting;
- Completes all required/supporting documentation/reports;
- Communicates with parents in a supportive manner, providing them with special education-related information;
- Actively participates and contributes to all meetings and in-service sessions and provides input and suggestions for future topics and directions;
- Other duties as assigned.
- Requires a master's degree or higher in psychology or educational psychology with a specialization in school psychology.?
- If a valid Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) credential is held, no other requirements need to be provided.??
- Completed a supervised field experience of at least 250 hours in a school and/or child student center and a one-year, full-time internship.
- Must possess a valid Illinois drivers license.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with Walsh Academy students, supervisors, coworkers, subordinates, support agencies, and a variety of internal as well as external consumers.
- Basic computer proficiency, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of programs.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of Individualized Education Plan (IEP) eligibility, planning, instruction and service delivery processes.
- Knowledge of crisis intervention procedures.
- Knowledge of clinical assessment skills.
- Knowledge of therapeutic planning and techniques.
- Skill in organizing and prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines.
- Required to frequently sit, stand, bend, stoop, walk and drive for extended periods; able to walk up and down stairs;
- Required to occasionally lift/move objects and/or youth weighing in excess of 40 pounds;
- Must possess the ability to provide physical restraint for students threatening to harm themselves or others;
- Must have the visual, hearing, and learning capabilities sufficient to perform the essential functions defined above;
- The position requires frequent, continuous work on a computer, which requires employees to possess the manual dexterity to operate the equipment.
- Work is performed during school and vocational program days and hours;
- Work may be performed off-site during required remote learning days or in situations when in person learning is deemed unsafe;
- Work is performed in and in association with Walsh Academy, hospital, and residential programs/settings as well as in an administrative office setting;
- Duties involve contact with students who may be verbally and physically threatening, aggressive, suicidal and/or under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

POSITION SUMMARY:
As the School Psychologist, provide assessment and counseling services (as required by the students IEP) to assist students in meeting their social-emotional and educational potential.
The School Psychologist will work with families/legal guardians, outside agencies and school district personnel to provide consultation, transition planning, and educational services coordination.
