Position Summary
The ED technician must provide care in accordance with acceptable medical practice standards and works within their scope of practice as outlined in this policy. Protects confidential/private information related to patients, families, employees and others. Provides constructive input in department development and operations designed to improve patient care. Demonstrates performance by adhering to Blue Mountain Hospital's handbook and established policies and procedures. Performs all duties in a manner that promotes team concept, culture of excellence and accountability and reflects the Blue Mountain Hospital mission and philosophy.The ED technician works closely with all members of the emergency team to provide direct patient care, optimize positive patient care outcomes and maintains positive and constructive interpersonal relationships. Understanding and practicing the principles of effective teamwork is key. Demonstrates competency by consistently providing compassionate care equally to all patients while actively incorporating the mission and core values of Blue Mountain Hospital.
Essential functions and Responsibilities

Assists Emergency Department nursing staff by providing patient care as ordered by the emergency department physician, following those written and verbal orders precisely in conjunction with the patient's primary RN.
General duties include but not limited to rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, monitoring VS, drawing lab specimens and delivery of specimens to the lab, accompanying patients to radiology, and reports patient needs to the patient's primary RN. Scheduled routine stocking, checking for expired and outdated supplies, data gathering for compliance reports and being a part of helping the ED be compliant with CMS regulations is essential.
Specific duties may be assigned as requested by the patient's assigned RN. These may include: assisting with transferring patients to the floor for admission, set up appropriate supplies, suture set up, set up instruments, equipment, removal of Foleys, assist with application of splints, intravenous access, and removal, obtaining blood specimens, ECG's, wound preparation and wound dressings etc. Preparing the patient for transfer, and other duties that are within the EMT Intermediate's scope of practice.
Follows departmental guidelines in assisting the nursing staff, as requested, in the administration of any medication or procedure in the Emergency Department. Work closely with the primary RN in any administration of medications.
Reports all accidents, incidents, changes in patient status/condition/actions immediately. Document all pertinent information in EHR and pass information to primary RN.
Assist in arranging appointments, transportation in conjunction with interdisciplinary team when necessary.
Is familiar with and follows policy and procedures of facility to provide optimal care for the patients.
Maintains compliance with education and facility mandatory education.

Ability to prioritize, highly organized.

Education, Experience & Certification/Licensure
Required:

High School Graduate, GED or Equivalent
Must have and maintain a license by the Oregon Health Authority as a Paramedic or EMT-Intermediate in good standing.
Current AHA Basic Life Support certification (BLS HCP)
Current Advance Life Support (ACLS) certificate issued by AHA
Current Pediatric Advanced Life support (PALS) certificate issued by AHA
Current Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support
Current Neonate Advanced Life Support (NALS),
Current blood borne pathogen (BBP)certificate,
must be able to obtain other training as requested by the unit/department within a timely manner.
