    Description

    EDGE is searching for a Crew Chief for the Port of Memphis. The Crew Chief works under the direction of the Operations Manager and supervises crew members to clean and keep in an orderly condition the properties under the management, jurisdiction and control of the Memphis & Shelby County Port Commission.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities/Job Functions:

    • Supervises crews and performs general ground maintenance, cuts grass, and removes litter from streets and levee and provides support to crews as necessary.
    • Schedules all work activities for crews on a daily, weekly and annual basis. Works with crews when not performing support activities.
    • Responsible for providing essential paperwork to management related to crew issues concerning vacation, sick leave, injury, etc.
    • Responsible for scheduling equipment maintenance as recommended by manufacturing specifications and recording service dates in writing.
    • Drives trucks and/or other vehicles to and from work sites and operates various equipment, tractors, mowers, outdoor power equipment, etc.
    • Adjusts, repairs and/or replaces parts and mechanisms of automotive vehicles and mowing equipment by performing such tasks as replacing carburetors, distributors, generators, starters, motors, transmissions and related parts.
    • Supervises and schedules general building maintenance and levee maintenance, and other related duties as assigned.
    Non-Essential Duties & Responsibilities/Job Functions:
    • Acquires and delivers household supplies to Port Commission facilities as needed.
    • Delivers Port Commission essential documents when necessary.
    • Works during emergency events which may include weekends as required.
    • Works with management related to the scheduled replacement of equipment and vehicles.
    • Supervise the maintenance of Port security camera locations to include acquiring a lift device and cleaning camera locations at heights up to 40'.

    Education & Experience:

    High School Diploma or GED and 2 years' experience operating and maintaining tractors and grass cutting equipment required. The position requires a valid Tennessee Driver's license.

    Skills & Abilities:
    • History of ethical and honest behavior, demonstrating a commitment to integrity, respect and teamwork in professional and other activities.
    • Ability to understand written and verbal instructions.
    • Ability to use and care for mechanic's tools and diagnostic equipment.
    • Ability to diagnose equipment and vehicle problems.
    • Ability to maintain and repair engines, transmissions, clutches, rear ends, hydraulics, pumps and other equipment.
    • Knowledge of the maintenance and repair of engines, transmissions, clutches, rear ends, hydraulics, pumps and other equipment.
    • Ability to supervise, establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.
    Physical Demands:

    The position requires the ability to lift approx. 50 lbs. to include garbage cans, tree limbs, furniture, and other heavy objects. The position requires recurring walking, lifting, bending, stooping, and reaching. The position requires extended periods of visual concentration on tasks such as mowing and trimming.

    Work Environment:

    The majority of work is performed outdoors with the related odors, dust, allergens, insects changing weather conditions and temperatures. The work environment may include prolonged exposure to noises and vibrations caused by machinery and equipment.

    Compensation:

    The hourly pay will be $23 - $24.50 per hour based on experience.
