    Position/Title: Director of Market Research

    Department: Administration

    Reports to: Senior Vice-President of Finance & Business Operations

    Status: Full-time; Salaried, Exempt

    JOB SUMMARY:
    Under the direction of the SVP of Finance & Business Operations, The Director of Market Research directs all market research activities for the organization as required by Meet Minneapolis and the Minneapolis Convention Center to reach their goals for devising and implementing strategies to grow the visitor economy, secure conventions, events, and trade shows to the region. Position will work closely with the SVP of Destination Sales and SVP of Branding & Strategy for research needs and will be a key member of the strategy development and leadership teams. This position may supervise project staff.

    ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBLITIES:

    • Develops and implements an efficient and cost-effective market research program to meet the organization's research needs, including identifying and conducting primary research and analyzing secondary and syndicated research.
    • Leverages data through analyses to inform decision making and strategy development in the organization and for the industry.
    • Monitors ongoing performance reporting programs to provide accurate and timely assessment of the organization's performance against contract metrics requirements and providing monthly reports to hotel partners and other stakeholders.
    • Develops market performance effectiveness measures that monitor economic impact, visitor arrivals/ spending, hotel occupancy, advertising, and other metrics..
    • Produces statistical and analytical reports and forecasts on visitation data for use by internal and external stakeholders
    • Responds to internal and external requests for data and insights, presents market research findings, insights, and market updates for stakeholders including ad hoc fee-based research for Meet Minneapolis partners.
    • Identifies and communicates trends in destination marketing.
    • Prepares presentation content for use at industry conferences, workshops and seminars relating to Meet Minneapolis and the local visitor economy.
    • Provides cooperative leadership for the organization's strategic planning and goal setting processes.
    • Develops and manages the annual market research budget, including management of market research suppliers, consultants, tools, and training.
    • Participates on internal task forces and committees as requested by the organization and performs other duties as assigned

    ESSENTIAL EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor's Degree in marketing, business, business analytics, statistics or related field
    • Five years' experience in market research or related field
    • Combination of education and experience may fulfill above requirements

    SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED

    • Demonstrated ability to source and analyze quantitative and qualitative data.
    • Experience in preparing and delivering effective presentations of research findings and their implications to large and small audiences
    • Ability to synthesize research data to inform strategic planning process
    • Understanding of the travel, tourism and hospitality industry and factors affecting the industry's performance
    • Self-motivated with strong organizational, multi-tasking, and project management skills, working independently and with teams
    • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
    • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite and other data analysis tools
    • Strongly committed to organization's values of Service, Collaboration, Inclusion, Passion, and Integrity

    Physical Demands:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to:

    • Walk, sit, bend and squat
    • Talk and hear
    • Grab, pull or bend items
    • Lift and/or carry up to 10 lbs.
    • View items at a close and distant range
    • Sit for extended periods of time
    • Use computers for extended periods of time
    • Valid private driver's license

    Working Conditions:

    • General office environment- hybrid of 60% in office, 40% remote
    • Attend offsite meetings and events as needed
    • May require limited travel and work outside of core business hours

    SALARY

    • $90,000 - $110,000 base salary plus annual bonus.
