    AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations - from foundational services such as Amazon's Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS's services and features apart in the industry.

    As a member of the UC organization, you'll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS.

    Within AWS UC, Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) roles engage with AWS customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.


    The AWS Center for Quantum Computing is a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and technicians, all working to innovate in quantum computing for the benefit of our customers.


    You will be joining a team focused on improving the performance of quantum processors on the path towards delivering a fault-tolerant quantum computer.

    We are looking to hire a Research Scientist focused on calibrating, benchmarking, and improving quantum gates on an integrated processor.

    In this role, you will (1) collaborate with device theorists to understand the fundamental limits of gate performance; (2) work with system engineers to set component level requirements as we scale processor complexity; (3) develop novel gate optimization routines; (4) contribute to control stack development; (5) enable novel quantum error correction demonstrations.

    You are expected to develop & lead high-impact research projects that intersect with our engineering roadmap. We are looking for candidates with strong engineering principles and resourcefulness. Organization and communication skills are essential.

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

    • PhD in physics, applied physics, electrical engineering, or an equivalent degree in a similar field
    • In-the-lab experience calibrating and benchmarking multi-qubit devices
    • Proficient in a scientific programming environment
    • Experience successfully delivering on projects as part of a cross-team collaboration

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Direct experimental experience with superconducting qubits, or cavity/circuit QED
    • Expertise in common quantum gate benchmarking and tomographic protocols (e.g. randomized benchmarking)
    • An ability to simulate simple quantum systems
    • Experience with electromagnetic simulations of superconducting circuits
    • Experience with microwave engineering

    Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets.

    The base pay for this position ranges from $124,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market.

    Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
