    Who we're looking for


    Toyota's CSRM group is looking for team members who are passionate about technology and interested in joining a collaborative and highly motivated team as a Principal Engineer I - Product Cybersecurity Group.


    The primary responsibility of this role is to lead and guide a development team of engineers writing foundational security software components and services with the highest quality and security to protect connected vehicle ecosystem assets.


    Reporting to the Senior Manager, the person in this role will join the Product Cybersecurity Group to deploy security solutions for applications in a more connected vehicle environment.

    What you'll be doing

    Provides technical knowledge on foundational security components and services from development through implementation that have a positive cybersecurity impact on company progress.

    Develop foundational security components and service software following Toyota SDLC process and security best practices.
    Ensure the quality of the software is kept to the highest standard.
    Make sure the software meets the highest security standards.
    Timely escalation of any risks/opportunities as appropriate


    Provide value-added research in cybersecurity, applied cryptography, and software development and analysis to take a "whole company" approach to identifying opportunities, creating solutions, and advising management as a strategic business partner.

    Provide value-added research and analysis, advice/counsel to management.
    Take a "whole company" approach to identifying opportunities and creating solutions.
    Act as a strategic business partner to Managers and Executives


    Navigate through variable situations, utilizing analytical, interpretive, and constructive thinking for a measurable and continuous impact on connected vehicle ecosystem security and company progress.

    Expected to face variable situations/issues that require analytical, interpretive, and constructive thinking.
    Make contributions to management and solve complex business problems.

    What you bring
    Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
    Extensive software development experience.

    Experience architecting, designing, developing, and testing cloud/mobile applications.
    Experience in leading technical teams developing large-scale cloud software.
    Expert in security requirements lifecycle process and software development lifecycle (SDLC).

    Competence as a practitioner and familiarity with cybersecurity tools and best practices within the cloud/mobile/IoT security domain.
    Application of basic principles to solve problems within teams and projects in an appropriate manner.
    Proficient knowledge in programming languages such as Rust. Go. C++, C, or Java, to leverage system assessments.

    Experience in hands-on software development using one of the above languages.


    A strong understanding of cyber security principles and best practices to deploy, manage, monitor, and provide sustainable operational support to meet team objectives.

    Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate and present complex security concepts and recommendations to executive management.

    Added bonus if you have
    OSCP, SANS/GIAC, CISSP, or other related/equivalent certifications.
    Knowledge of applied cryptography, cryptographic algorithms, and proofs.
    Domain expertise in cloud security, embedded security, and mobile application security.
    Domain expertise in automotive industry quality, regulatory, product planning, or manufacturing processes.
    Customer service and relationship management.
    Self-education to continuously learn and invest in skills and knowledge relevant to the team and the position.
    Going above and beyond by understanding the business, anticipating needs, and delivering results that meet all quality expectations.

    Pro-active management and creation of tasks, definitions of done, and deliverable dates for tasks requested of you and projects you manage.

    Fluent in Japanese (reading, writing, speaking) for business and technical discussions.
