Description
The Quality Manager position at Sperry Rail will have the primary objective of establishing and maintaining high level quality standards, optimize production processes, and minimize defects or error in the manufacturing and assembly process as they relate to the Production Department.
This role will report directly to the Head of Quality and work closely with the Production Manager and related stakeholders in procurement and inventory.
Routine responsibilities will consist of monitoring and auditing of processes, materials, and product testing against established standards with continuous analysis of quality defects and/or deviations.
Core Responsibilities:
Quality Control:
Develop and implement quality control processes and procedures to maintain consistent product quality.
Establish and monitor quality standards, specifications, and metrics for production.
Perform routine inspections and audits to ensure adherence to quality standards.
Process Improvement:
Identify areas for process improvement and efficiency enhancement in the production workflows.
Implement lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to optimize production processes to reduce waste and increase product quality.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement process improvements and best practices.
Inspection and Testing:
Define and oversee inspection and testing protocols for inventoried product components, in-process components, and finished products.
Ensure the calibration and maintenance of testing equipment and instruments.
Analyze test results to identify deviations and take appropriate corrective actions.
Documentation:
Maintain comprehensive records of quality data, inspection results, and non-conformance reporting.
Adhere to the established document control system for production processes.
Generate reports and performance metrics related to quality and production.
Training:
Develop and deliver quality-related training programs for production staff.
Ensure that employees are knowledgeable about and compliant with quality standards, procedures, and best practices.
Encourage a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Root Cause Analysis:
Investigate and analyze root causes of quality issues and non-conformities.
Lead problem-solving initiatives and implement corrective and preventive actions.
Support and promote proactive problem-solving and cultural norm.
Compliance:
Ensure compliance with relevant safety standards, regulations, and required certifications.
Manage and coordinate quality audits and assessments.
Keep up-to-date with industry best practices and emerging quality standards.
Supplier Management:
Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers.
Monitor and assess the quality of incoming materials and components supplied by external vendors.
Collaborate with suppliers to resolve quality-related issues.

Qualifications – Must Haves:
A bachelor's degree in Quality Management or relevant field (Engineering, Controls, Assurance, Systems, etc...)
3-5 years of strong leadership and team management experience.
Strong knowledge of quality control methodologies, statistical analysis, and quality management systems.
Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
Advanced communication and influencing skills.
Qualifications – Desirable:
MBA/MS degree in related field
CQA, CQE, CQM/OE certification
SSGB/ SSBB certification
ANSI/NDT certification
