    The role you'll contribute:


    The Hyperbaric Technician of Redmond Regional Medical Center Advanced Wound Care and Hyperbarics Center, under the general supervision of the Hyperbaric Physician and the direct supervision of the Clinical Manager, will assume responsibility for the safe and effective operation of the compression chamber system and supporting components.

    All therapeutic and diagnostic modalities will be ordered by the Hyperbaric Physician.


    The Hyperbaric Technician will also be responsible for performing maintenance activities of the hyperbaric chamber(s) and associated systems and equipment, as directed.

    In addition, he/she will report to the Center HBO Safety Director with respect to safety issues and/or concerns.

    The Hyperbaric Technician will be able to demonstrate the following essential competencies, duties and responsibilities as a result of an initial orientation and education, experience, and ongoing learning.


    The Technician will be expected to:

    • Demonstrate a working knowledge of the policies and procedures and operational competencies of Redmond Regional Medical Center Advanced Wound Care and Hyperbarics Center.
    • Implement the physician's orders as indicated by the patient's treatment plan. Verify that the patient's diagnosis is one of the appropriate approved conditions for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), through consultation with the hyperbaric physician, and that supporting documentation is present in the patient's medical record.
    • Prepare the hyperbaric chamber, equipment and materials needed for patients undergoing hyperbaric oxygen treatments.
    • Evaluate equipment/supplies used in the chamber and ensure that they meet hospital Biomedical department requirements as well as all safety requirements before they are permitted inside the chamber.
    • Educate patient and family, if appropriate, as to the benefits, risks, contraindications, and safety issues of HBOT before treatment.
    • Inspect the patient prior to the commencement of each HBOT session to ensure all safety standards are being adhered to, i.e. appropriate attire, no makeup, no hairspray, etc.
    • Perform blood glucose monitoring, within scope of practice, as ordered and indicated. Perform quality control daily on department glucometer, per hospital policy.
    • Operate the compression chamber and supporting components and maintain operating, maintenance, safety logs and other required documentation, as specified in department policy.
    • Monitor the patient and report any adverse reactions the patient may be experiencing during the treatment to the hyperbaric physician.
    • Complete the patient's treatment charges on a daily basis. Perform data entry into the Clinical Management System and collate reports as requested by the Center Director, Clinical Manager and/or Medical Director.
    • Process (clean and store properly) equipment/supplies used in the hyperbaric environment and/or department. Maintain equipment per daily checklists and clean according to infection control standards.
    • Ensure that medical records include serial photographs of the wound for reporting of the patient's progress and participate in taking photographs, if so designated.
    • Perform an inventory check, and maintain a record of supplies and laundry items. Order items as required.
    • Perform required preventive and other maintenance under the supervision of the HBO Safety Director.
    • Perform transcutaneous oxygen monitoring testing as ordered and per departmental policy.
    • Perform dressing changes and/or wound care, within scope of practice, as ordered, and participate in wound clinic activities when HBOT volumes allow for such activity.
    • Orient new employees as needed. The job responsibilities of this position may include cross training in other functions or positions to ensure satisfactory operation of the department/work unit or to permit flexible staffing assignments.
    • Maintain continuous quality improvement duties and chart audits, as requested. Participate in New Patient reviews to assess for HBOT indicators.
    • Answer telephone inquiries and schedule patient treatment times, if so designated.
    • Perform marketing duties as needed, intra- and interdepartmental.
    • Must be able to complete assignments independently and to work as part of a team; to take instructions from supervisors; to exercise problem-solving skills; and to interact with co-workers, supervisors, patients, vendors and the public in a professional and pleasant manner.
    The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed :


    Minimum qualifications:
    * _ Minimum of one (1) year of experience in healthcare or the diving industry is required. Wound care, hyperbaric medicine, and/or experience in emergency medicine or acute medical care is preferred._
    * _ Specific training and/or experience in compression chamber operations, including a demonstrated knowledge of decompression tables strongly desired._
    * _ Ability to physically meet the working conditions required of the job._
    * _ Computer literate_

    Must be credentialed or licensed in the state where working.

    Current license, certification, or training is required in one of the following qualifying vocations:

    * _ Registered Nurse_
    * _ Practical Nurse (LPN/LVN)_
    * _ National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist_
    * _ Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician_
    * _ Emergency Medical Technician_
    * _ Certified Hyperbaric Technologist_
    * _ Diving Medical Technician (DMT)_
    * _ Military Corpsman_
    * _ Commercial or Military Diver_
    * _ Life Support Technician_
