  • POSITION SUMMARY

    As the first interacting role with families registering to the Lynn Public Schools, the Family Coordinator works collaboratively as a team member to welcome new students and their families and ensure a smooth transition for new students. Is responsible for providing a welcoming environment and the overall management of appointments or walk-in families, connecting them with the right department or service. Through working closely with families, the Family Coordinator will ensure equitable access to school programs and services.

    QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Demonstrated fluency in both English and Spanish languages (oral and written)
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities.
  • Proficiency in computer skills including student information systems, content management systems, marketing and social media tools, Microsoft Word and Excel, and ability to learn new programs/software quickly
  • Ability to multitask and problem solve
  • An understanding of the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities
  • A positive, high-energy attitude and a drive for personal excellence
  • JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Creates and sustains a welcoming environment for students and families enrolling in the Lynn Public Schools
  • Attends to the needs of families by way of personal interaction, phone calls, and email.
  • Provides information about community resources to new students and their families
  • In office interpretation and translation as needed
  • Remains knowledgeable of school, district policies and procedures for students' placement
  • Maintains current knowledge on issues including language development, educational programs, health and health insurance, benefits immigration, food insecurity, homelessness and best practices to register immigrants and refugees' newcomers
  • Provides families with information concerning district registration policies and procedures as well as resources available to them throughout the school system and community. (Frequently Asked Question document and Facebook)
  • Works closely with local school district personnel and departments to help family members navigate through educational, special education, language, and school-related concerns and needs.
  • Assists families in identifying and accessing supportive services designed to improve a student's academic performance.
  • Greets families and follows "Welcome Center Check-In" process
  • Promptly reply to voicemails on our main extension
  • Prepares and organizes welcoming desk and family waiting room throughout the day
  • Confirms appointments the day before and reminds families of documentation required
  • Coordinates with the Director regarding Appointment Plus (scheduling system) and any related issues.
  • Must be available to work extended hours Tuesday evenings during enrollment period (March to September).
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of the Welcome Center
  • TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    REPORTS TO: Welcome Center Director

    DAYS: Twelve month position

    HOURS: Regular hours: 7:45-3:45 M-Th, 7:45-2:45 Friday

    School Vacations and Summer hours: 7:45-2:45 M-Th; Fridays 7:45-12:45 pm

    Extended Hours (February to September) Tuesdays 7:45am to 7:45 pm (Paid at hourly rate)

    SALARY: $61,505

    Effective July 1, 2024- $63,658

    An offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment physical, including a drug test, National fingerprint-based Criminal Background Check (NCBC), and Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI).
