Laser Engineering Tech - San Diego, CA, United States - ASML

    Default job background
    Full time
    Description

ASML US, including its affiliates and subsidiaries, bring together the most creative minds in science and technology to develop lithography machines that are key to producing faster, cheaper, more energy-efficient microchips.

We design, develop, integrate, market, and service these advanced machines, which enable our customers - the world's leading chipmakers - to reduce the size and increase the functionality of their microchips, which in turn leads to smaller, more powerful consumer electronics.

Our headquarters are in Veldhoven, Netherlands, and we have 18 office locations around the United States including main offices in Chandler, Arizona, San Jose and San Diego, California, Wilton, Connecticut, and Hillsboro, Oregon.

The EUV Source team in San Diego operates in a fast-paced, uniquely innovative, and challenging environment to deliver new-to-industry products supporting the commercialization of EUV technology by ASML.

The Plasma and Laser Physics engineer will be part of the EUV Source Performance team within ASML San Diego.

Due to high complexity of the EUV light source, we, as Source Performance, are a dedicated team with the mission to validate and ensure that EUV sources meet or exceed customer performance requirements and expectations.

In order to execute this mission, EUV Source Performance acts as the critical enabler of knowledge acquisition and transfer throughout the product development process.

This role will be supporting analytics projects designed to enable the transfer of complex physics based knowledge and product solutions to the rest of the organization in an automated way.

The goal of the project is to accurately predict the optimum performance settings for individual EUV sources, ensuring our customer service teams have all the necessary information to quickly and effectively tune the performance with minimal impact to availability.

To be successful, the candidate must combine strong technical skills, preferably plasma and laser expertise, problem solving and numerical analysis skills (using MATLAB, Python, Databricks, Julia, etc.), experience developing physics based simulations, and knowledge of data science techniques in a cloud environment.

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
These models will be both physics based and leverage advanced data science/analytics techniques.
Define the requirements of the data pipelines supporting those models.

This will include the application of intelligent context filters, the creation of new KPIs that are not directly measured on the product, and data density requirements that balance sufficient statistical accuracy while minimizing cloud costs.

Design scientific experiments to test the performance and accuracy of models and to validate, maximize, document and communicate the results.

Work closely with and lead cross-functional groups (systems engineering, development engineering, scientists, global customer support personnel, manufacturing personnel, senior management, marketing, external customers) to set clear technical direction.

Collect test data (on-tool and using executable automatic codes) and analyze test data, to assess performance capabilities, validate systems, operations and service, identify potential risks, and make suggestions for system improvement.

Provide feedback to the design engineers on performance, serviceability, and reliability improvements.
including remote and on-site troubleshooting and data analysis, developing action plans, and performing system recovery actions.
Travel as required for the purposes of alignment, planning, and/or support.
Provide technical training to engineers utilizing our models/platform. Complete service, expense reports, and other administrative responsibilities in accordance with ASML's procedures and with supervisor's approval.
Responsible for safe operation in factory and customer sites.
Masters in Plasma Physics, Engineering Physics, Applied Physics, or other related fields. PhD preferred.
Experiences in semiconductor equipment development a plus.
Excellent inter-personal and customer service skills, with an advanced understanding of customer relationship building.
Proficiency in use of data analysis tools such as Matlab, Python, Julia, etc.
Proficiency working in cloud environments such as Databricks and AKS (Azure Kubernetes Service)

Ability to setup and use the test and analytical equipment commonly used for the optics, laser and plasma research.

Ability to translate the design and test requirements into comprehensive test plan documents and procedures.

Ability to reduce large amounts of data, create a concise summary, and effectively report results through written and/or graphical formats.

3 days onsite, 2 days remote.
    EOE AA M/F/Veteran/Disability

Potential candidates will meet the education and experience requirements provided on the above job description and excel in completing the listed responsibilities for this role.
