    This position is for a Senior Accounting Analyst within the Capital Reporting and Analytics-Asset Accounting department.

    The role is responsible for providing financial analysis, accounting, and reporting support related to fixed assets, nuclear fuel accounting, Regulatory accounting and various regulatory assets and liabilities.

    The analyst will work closely with teammates and managers on various accounting activities including; monthly journal entry preparation, account reconciliations, financial statement analysis, and preparation of internal and external reporting.

    The analyst will also interact frequently with various groups to support business transactions and decisions. This role will work to ensure that accounting in this area meets FERC, GAAP and State requirements.

    The position will also help to analyze and research ad-hoc requests, develop reporting, and effectively prepare presentations for management review and decision making.

    This position will work with moderately complex property issues; therefore, strong analytical skills and the ability to exercise judgment are essential.

    This is the fourth level of the financial analysis classification hierarchy. Employees at this level work independently and receive minimal guidance. Incumbents are required to have in-depth knowledge and experience and work to solve complex problems. Incumbents also act as a resource for less experience employees.
    Responsibilities

    • Prepare/review monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, analysis, and reporting for property related balance sheet and income statement accounts.
    • Prepare AFUDC rates, AFUDC analysis to management and other AFUDC related activities.
    • Prepare Depreciation rates, Depreciation analysis to management and other Depreciation related activities.
    • Prepare/review entries for Duke Energy Florida and the Midwest Duke Energy Jurisdictions.
    • Prepare journal entries for asset impairment/sale/acquisition transactions.
    • Prepare cash flow roll forwards and other schedules used for SEC financials.
    • Prepare and review financial schedules that support internal and external reporting, including FERC filings.
    • Assist with preparation of data requests for internal and external parties.
    • Support depreciation studies and implementation of new depreciation rates.
    • Perform research of GAAP accounting issues and prepare accounting position papers as needed.
    • Research and implement FERC or state regulatory accounting issues including rate case support, as well as modifications to, or new, rate orders.
    • Provide accounting support as needed for routine transactions as well as larger strategic initiatives.
    • Understand and maintain proper business and financial processes to ensure adherence to internal controls and policies.
    • Work with internal and external auditors, providing necessary information and answering questions as needed.
    • Assist in SOX documentation updates and testing.
    • Identify process improvements and assist in implementation to produce efficiencies at all stages of the accounting process.
    Required/Basic Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree with major in Accounting/Finance or related discipline
    • Three (3) plus years of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degree
    • Possesses and applies fundamental accounting and finance concepts, practices, and procedures
    • Experience with financial applications (i.e., PeopleSoft, HFM, PowerPlan, etc.) and query tool (WebI)
    • Experience using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word and Power Point
    Desired Qualifications

    • CPA or working toward CPA
    • Advanced degree, preferably in Accounting
    • Six (6) years or more of professional work related experience
    • Proficient using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word, and Power Point
    • Advanced excel skills
    • Operational business support experience
    • Experience with monthly close process, general accounting, and financial reporting (FERC/GAAP)
    • Previous experience in utility, utility asset or regulatory accounting environment
    • Public accounting or auditing experience
    • Effective communication and collaboration skills
    • Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills – including data analytics
    • Familiar with asset accounting concepts (construction work in progress, plant in service, depreciation, cost of removal, retirement and unitization)
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively perform at the experienced analyst level, including ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and adhere to strict deadlines and schedules
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and foster good relationships with teammates and business partners
    • Previous development of process improvement and implementation

    Working Conditions

    • Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to the assigned Duke Energy facility.
