- Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling and Student Personnel, Psychology, Social Work, Organizational Management, Liberal Arts or related degree area, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience working with students who are TRIO eligible and/or from diverse ethnic backgrounds.
- Demonstrated understanding of student development needs.
- Demonstrated understanding of the mission and philosophy of TRIO programs.
- Strong public relations, presentation and interpersonal communication, and writing skills.
- Demonstrated self-starter with strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Proficient and efficient at using computer technology including the internet and Microsoft Office.
- Valid Minnesota driver's license and reliable means of transportation.
- Experience working in a high school education setting providing academic advising or counseling in a TRIO or similar program.
- At least 3 years of experience working with youth.
- Experience of having overcome barriers similar to those populations served by the grant.
- Demonstrated knowledge of financial aid and post-secondary education programs.
- Experience creating academic, career, financial literacy, and/or social and emotional learning workshops.
- Experience developing mentorship programs.

Job Description
Provide professional assistance to the project director. Provide academic advising, guidance, and support services to UB/TRIO program participants. Assist in identifying and selecting eligible program participants. Conduct individualized needs assessments. Develop individualized academic success plans with participants. Provide guidance for students applying for college. Monitor student academic progress. Develop action plans for students who are struggling academically. Assist participants with college exploration and admissions. Coordinate tours to colleges and universities. Assist participants with applying for financial aid and scholarships. Assist in organizing activities for the academic year and summer component. Provide one-to-one and group advising for program participants under the supervision of the program director. Assist in the development and conduction of career, scholarship, social and emotional learning, and other related workshops. Provide direct service to students at three target high schools: Brooklyn Center, Park Center, and Robbinsdale Cooper. Work effectively with the UB/TRIO team to meet the goals and objectives as stated in the approved grant proposal. Communicate with North Hennepin Community College faculty and staff, participate in program development, serve on college committees, organize cultural events for program participants, assist with program evaluation, and complete other assignments as directed.
