    Description

    Position Summary

    Supervises and coordinates activities of train crew engaged in switching railroad cars to facilitate loading/unloading or making up/breaking up of trains; also supervises activities of passenger related train crews.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Supervises and coordinates train crews, including passenger service crews.
    • Receives instructions from Manager or Customer on cars to be switched.
    • Notifies train crew of switching orders and car movements using radio, telephone, or hand signals.
    • Manages cars online through various RMI reports.
    • Ensures accuracy of daily train lists and reporting, including crew work sheets and operational reporting.
    • Approves man hours and conducts timely accident/incident investigations.
    • Adjusts locomotive consist based on HP and trailing tons to optimize fuel and utilization.
    • Understands track conditions, slow orders, and their impacts on productivity.
    • Demonstrates predictable, reliable, and timely attendance.
    • Knowledgeable of federal railroad regulations and safety guidelines.
    • Ability to read and apply safety rules, government regulations, and maintenance instructions.
    • Effectively communicates instructions and safety rules to co-workers.
    • Trains switch crews and yard personnel on job duties and regulations.
    • Makes independent judgments using sound reasoning skills.
    • Responds quickly to emergency/non-emergency situations.
    • Communicates effectively in a professional manner with colleagues, supervisors, and officials.
    • Promotes company safety initiatives and safety culture.
    • Manages operational testing program and rules compliance.
    • Ability to pass training and required testing.
    • Performs other duties as requested.

    Machines, Tools, Special Equipment, Personal Protective Equipment Used:

    • PPE; hard hat, vest, safety glasses, FR clothing, gloves, steel toed boots.

    Education and Experience:

    • High school education or GED, and 6 months job-related experience; or equivalent combination.
    • Ability to pass training and required testing.

    Certificates and Licenses:

    • Must possess current locomotive engineers and conductor's certification or ability to obtain.
    • Must hold a valid state driver's license.

    Work Environment:

    The work environment involves outside weather conditions, noise, and fumes from gas, oil, and grease.
