    QUALIFICATIONS:
    1.

    Possess an advanced degree, Master's or higher, from an accredited institution with emphasis in educational leadership, school administration and/or curriculum, or other related field.

    2. Possess or immediately qualify for a Michigan Permanent/Continuing or Professional Teaching Certificate.
    4. Demonstrated leadership ability that results in teamwork and collaborative working relationships.
    5.

    Demonstrated leadership in the ability to communicate a clear vision and to work cooperatively with colleagues to attain the vision.

    6. Evidence of ability to establish working relationships that result in mutual respect.
    7. Ability to speak clearly and concisely in oral and written communication.
    8. Strong knowledge base in Elementary and Secondary curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
    9. Knowledge of federal and state educational mandates.
    10. Demonstrate a willingness to take professional risks to improve student opportunities.
    11. Strong interpersonal and public relations skills.





    PREFERENCES AND SKILLS:
    Experience with or knowledge of Professional Learning Communities, Innovative Education Practices, Community Relations, Restorative Practices, Curriculum Development, Instructional Leadership, building operations, and building safety and security.

    DESCRIPTION:
    An Assistant Principal at Avondale GATE Magnet School .5 and R. Grant Graham School .5 is responsible for the leadership and supervision of students and staff. Responsibilities include leading the instructional program's development, implementation, supervision, and evaluation.

    In addition, he/she is responsible for supervising the personnel and students under his/her jurisdiction, developing positive community relations between school, district, and community, and adhering to all policies and procedures of the Board of Education.

    Candidates must be able to demonstrate knowledge of effective leadership practices, instruction, analysis of appropriate data, and be able to design and implement appropriate responses based on results.


    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:


    • Provides leadership for elementary and secondary curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
    2. Communicates the School's philosophy, goals, and objectives to the students, parents, staff members, and the community at large.
    3.

    Provides leadership to meet and exceed the standards in the state accreditation program, school improvement framework, and federal adequate yearly progress.

    4. Monitors adherence to the approved curriculum and appropriate instructional practices.
    5. Assumes responsibility for the administration of Elementary and Middle school assessments and the reporting of results.
    6. Contributes to the design and implementation of professional staff development programs to support building and district goals.
    7. Collaborates with the elementary and middle school leadership team to meet and exceed building and district goals.
    8. Evaluate and review the performance of staff assigned to the elementary and middle school.
    9. Guides in resolving conflict with students, staff, administrators, and parents.
    10. Creates and maintains a safe environment for all students and staff.
    11. Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline according to due process standards.
    12. Supervises and actively participates in afternoon and evening school activities as assigned.
    13. Works cooperatively with other administrators in pupil accounting, facility use, staff assignments, financial resource development, and coordination of schedules.
    14. Ensures compliance with all Board of Education policies and administrative guidelines and procedures by administrators, staff, and students.
    15.

    Attends and participates in Board of Education meetings, as well as appropriate committee meetings to support the work of the elementary and middle school, district, and community.

    16. Bending, lifting, and overhead work required.

    Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal and Superintendent of the School District.

    19. Proficient at understanding, diagnosing, and providing instructional feedback regarding closing the achievement gap.

    21. Proven success in dealing with at-risk populations.
