    Description

    Join our dynamic finance team where you will be responsible for overseeing SFM's general account portfolio design, fund deployment, and governance. SFM has had significant growth in the last few years, as such our assets have grown.

    In this newly created role, you will ensure that the investment portfolio supports long-term surplus objectives and short-term liquidity requirements. Working proactively directing consultants and third-party asset management partners through initial diligence, strategic and tactical asset allocation (SAA and TAA) studies, performance and risk analyses, and regulatory compliance is a key function in this position. You will serve as the internal resource for independent market analysis and response, work closely with the CFO and other key stakeholders within the organization and interact with the board of directors.

    Remote work is offered; the preferred location for the person hired for the role is in MN, but persons living in our core operating states of IA, SD, WI, NE or KS will be considered. The Corporate Headquarters are in Bloomington MN.

  • What You Will Be Doing:


    1. Directs third-party investment consultant and asset manager activities. Executes canvasing/searches, due diligence, onboarding, monitoring and exit. Ensures third-party investment partnerships attend to contracted service and performance standards.
    2. Constructs strategic and tactical asset allocation (SAA and TAA) studies in partnership with third parties. Optimizes integration with enterprise capital models. Aligns portfolio through tactical mandates and deployment of cash.
    3. Coordinates policy, performance, and compliance reporting for the Board of Directors investment committee.
    4. Masters forward-looking knowledge of capital markets, regulatory environment, tax implications, liquidity management, ratings support, credit and investment initiatives. Positions investment portfolio for preemptive response.
    5. Chairs the corporate investment committee. Responsible for agenda content, reporting, group facilitation and garnering executive support for recommendations to bring before the Board of Directors.
    6. Sets investment-related governing documentation, including contracts, corporate investment policy statements (IPS), and investment management agreements (IMA).
    7. Partners with Finance to perform investment-related responsibilities for cash management, budget, forecasting, and the Department of Insurance quarterly/annual statement reporting.
    8. Participates in investment conferences, networks and industry events.

    What We'll Love About You

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in finance, economics, or related field.
  • Seven or more years' experience working with institutional investment portfolios, as asset owner or third-party partner.
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation desirable.
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) beneficial.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills and ability to build sound relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Working knowledge of fixed income and credit fundamentals.
  • Proficiency in the use and navigation of investment research tools (eVestment, Bloomberg, FactSet, Alladin), Microsoft Office suite, and financial models.
  • Exposure to regulatory and capital models beneficial.
  • Knowledge of Statutory Accounting Principles beneficial.
  • Meets internal and external deadlines and produces a consistently high-quality product.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Customer focused outlook and willingness to work collaboratively.
  • Ability to assimilate, understand and analyze information from a variety of sources.
  • Must be self-directed and able to work independently.
  • Able to assume a leadership role in large groups and when directing a team of people.
  • Adheres to a strict code of confidentiality.
  • Willing to come into the office as needed.
  • Physical Requirements

    Work takes place in a semi paperless environment within an office setting, either on business premises or other remote location, using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers, which requires being stationary for extended periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, and maintain concentration and focus. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms and work with close vision. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds. Work is performed indoors with little to no exposure to extreme outdoor weather conditions. Regular attendance is required.
