- Have a valid Kentucky certification for administration.
- Have a doctorate (preferred).
- Have experience in educational administration (preferred).
- Have experience teaching and/or administering special education (preferred).
- Have experience in teaching, administering or developing alternative programs (preferred).
- Have the ability to work with students, parents, faculty and administration.
- Establish criteria for student admission into the alternative education program and administer the admissions procedure.
- Recruit potential teachers for the program and conduct an annual in-service training workshop for those assigned to the program.
- Maintain current knowledge of all pertinent rules, regulations, and statutes, and assure that the alternative education program meets such requirements and standards.
- Assume responsibility for the collection, review, and submission of all forms and reports relative to the program to the administration, to the Board, and to state agencies.
- Supervise all personnel in the alternative education program and counsel them regularly on both a formal and an informal basis.
- Meet with students enrolled in the program for the purpose of counseling and evaluation.
- Prepare and administer the program's budget.
- Interpret the alternative education program to the student body at large, to the district's staff, to the administration, to the Board, and to the public.
- Provide information to the schools, as well as local and state agencies, about alternative programs and/or services designed, developed, implemented and maintained by the Covington Independent Public School District.
- Work with the Director of Special Education to provide needed services for students identified with special needs.
- Monitor alternative programs to insure students are receiving appropriate opportunities.
- Organize and maintain individual programs that adequately address the needs of students that are not succeeding in traditional programs.
- Meet regularly with staff to evaluate the status of alternative programs.
- Work with local and state agencies to provide the maximum support available for each student within the alternative programs.
- Develop and maintain the Student Code of Conduct designed specifically for alternative programs.
- Serve as curriculum coordinator for projects as identified by Central Office.
- Perform related duties as assigned by administrator or Superintendent.
- To provide students enrolled in the alternative education program with education, training, and experience based as fully as possible on their own stated needs, interests, desires, and expectations, while maintaining a high standard of validity, relevance, and intellectual rigor in the educational experiences offered.
