    Job Summary
    Position is responsible for coaching student athletes in game strategies and techniques to prepare them for athletic competition.  Position motivates student athletes to develop an appreciation of the sport, and to teach life-skills to the student athletes.

    Minimum Qualifications  
    Must meet licensing requirements by state and MSHSL. Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.  Must possess a thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies and techniques of the sports.  Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents and students.  Coaching experience is preferred.
     
    Essential Duties
    1. Must meet Minnesota Statute for varsity head coaches, and all of Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) coaching education requirements.
    2. Prepare philosophy, mission and vision statements for their program.
    3. Communicate to parents and student athletes the expectation and guidelines for their program.
    4. Prepare emergency action plans for their program.
    5. Participate in formal game and practice observations as required by the Athletic Director (AD).
    6. Complete a survey of players, staff and parents every 3 years.
    7. Participate in an assessment with AD every 3 years.
    8. Prepare a professional development plan every 3 years.
    9. Hold organizational meetings for team prospects prior to the season.
    10. Assesses player's skills and assigns to a team and position.
    11. Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide individual and team development.
    12. Works with the AD in scheduling facilities for practices and competition, and budget allotment.
    13. Assigns duties to their assistant coaches.
    14. Responsible for keeping accurate records for student-athletes; uniforms and equipment; and other reports required by the District.
     

    Essential Duties continued
     
    15. Turning in letter award winners five days after completion of season.
    16. Teaches team the rules and regulations of the sport.
    17. Follows MSHSL policies and NFHS regulations.
    18. Adheres to the Code of Ethics for high school coaches (attached).
    20. Work with the booster club in the raising of additional funds for program.
    21. Set up a Student-Activities account with the main office at school.
    22. Work with administrative assistant to set up transportation schedule.
    23. Supervise all practices and game competitions.
