    The Medical Assistant (MA) will play a crucial role in our resident-based internal medicine clinic. Responsibilities include patient intakes, chart preparation, vaccine administration, EKGs, and clerical tasks. This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, from 8am to 5pm.

    **Even if you are not certified, you will be considered for this role and will have 12 months to obtain national certification upon starting employment. Uncertified MAs will receive study materials for certification, with Banner covering the costs. Successful certification will lead to a pay raise.     University Medical Center South PBCs Banner - University Medical Center South is a fully equipped facility with an Emergency department, a trauma center, and a Behavioral Health Pavilion. It holds accreditations including being a Cardiac Receiving Center and a Nurses Improving Care for Health system Elders-designated senior-friendly hospital. The center is staffed by full-time faculty physicians of the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson and managed by Banner Health under an agreement with Pima County. The center provides specialized services such as inpatient and outpatient behavioral health, diabetes treatment and education, geriatrics care, and orthopedics.

    POSITION SUMMARY
    This role involves assisting clinicians and nursing staff in delivering medical care and evaluating direct patient care. It requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills to ensure an exceptional patient experience.

    CORE FUNCTIONS
    - Prepares patients for examinations and treatments by recording vital signs, symptoms, and other necessary measurements, and documenting chief complaints. Reports any changes in a patient's condition to the clinician.
    - Assists providers with examinations and minor procedures, which may involve taking vital signs, documenting health indicators, and performing various tasks. Acts as a chaperone when needed. Adheres to safety protocols and infection control measures. Manages patient care coordination, including pre-certifications, referrals, and scheduling of medical treatments.

    - Provides clerical support by maintaining patient records, communicating test results, and ensuring accurate billing information. Maintains a clean and organized environment, including equipment sanitation and maintenance.

    - Orders and restocks supplies, manages medication-related tasks, and fosters effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.

    - Completes onboarding activities and training as required.

    - Works under direct provider supervision, interacting with various healthcare professionals, patients, and families to ensure efficient delivery of care.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    High school diploma or equivalent is required, along with completion of an approved medical assistant training program. Active Medical Assistant Certification and BLS certification are mandatory. Proficiency in medical software, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities are essential.

    Employees in specific clinical settings must possess the required clearance cards as per regulatory standards.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    Prior experience in medical procedures, insurance operations, EMR systems, and scheduling software is preferred. Additional relevant education or experience is a plus.
